• Resurrection Cookies – A Hands-On Way to Learn About Jesus’ Death, Burial & Resurrection

This Sunday will be Easter, a time to remember the greatest moment in history – Jesus’ resurrection. Have you all ever made Resurrection Cookies with your children?  It’s a great way to teach your little ones the story of Jesus’ last days on earth and then his resurrection.  We made them (Resurrection Cookies)  for the first time last year and the kids are looking forward to making them again. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. (Mark 16:6)   Here the other day, a doctor said, “I…

  • Treats from My Kitchen

I’ve been preparing for Emily, my niece’s wedding the last few days.  She got married today but I’ll save that for another post.  You’ll just have to stick around the next few days so you can see all the pictures. 🙂 There were strawberries to be dipped in chocolate… tarts to be filled… and mini red velvet cakes to be assembled. I baked all the tart shells early in the week but almost everything else was done on Friday with last-minute things completed Saturday morning before the wedding. I dipped about 250 strawberries…  These are the Caramel Carmenita tarts. The Lemon Merignue tarts. And finally my mini Red Velvet Cakes   I transported…

  • A Nature Inspired Christmas Tablescape

We had Christmas with mom and dad here at my house. Ten of us.  Pretty small since we normally have my sisters and their families but things just happened to work out that way this year. Since I didn’t have any Christmassy dishes, I decided to go with a tablescape that had more of a nature look. I decided to use a toolbox my boys had made when they were little as my centerpiece.  I filled the toolbox with some juniper branches, poked some red material around the base of the branches, added a poinsettia and a bit of cranberry garland.  I loved how it turned out. For our Christmas Dinner we had: Grilled…

  • Save Time and Pre-Make Your Own Biscuit Mix

Using a Master Mix is a way to save yourself time in the kitchen when it’s time to cook something tasty for the kids, the whole family or even just you and your husband.   Biscuits and gravy are one of my family’s favorite breakfast meals but for me, my least favorite part is mixing up the biscuit batter.  Well, not really that but the part where you take the pastry blender and cut the butter into very small pieces.  That’s my dread. But what if I could make a mix that would potentially be enough for my family to have biscuits 3-4 times?  The way you can do that is to make a master mix, consisting…

  • The Humble Egg McMuffin – the Quintessential Breakfast Sandwich

How is it possible to have written so much about how to make the little breakfast sandwich, the egg mcmuffin?  Have I possibly made something that is quite simple – complicated? I hope not because I think everyone should try their own homemade egg mcmuffin at least once in their life.  Notice, I said homemade.  No McDonald’s version, okay? Egg McMuffins are great for a breakfast on the go or when you’re sitting down to the breakfast table.  Although you’re trying to do several last minute things at once when you make these, part of the solution is to have everything ready to assemble and all your ingredients on the counter…
