Yes, Serenity’s birthday was clear back in November but we just had her birthday celebration the end of December. We decided to go with a mini-golf theme since Serenity wanted to go somewhere that had go-karts, etc. I made these invitations using Printmaster for the letters the green and then I used skewers and foam for the flag and balls. My mom and I laughed so hard watching the kids ride the bumper boats. They were soaked! After an afternoon at the Funtasticks Park, we went back to my sister’s house for a golf themed supper I had prepared. Then the ultimate golf cake was presented by none other than Martha – our own cake decorator. What’s with the name Martha and creativity? The water and rocks were fantastic…

Another Son has Graduated High School! – An Evening Celebration
Well the big event is over. What a special evening we had celebrating Zachary’s high school graduation! We had about 145-150 people and plenty of food for all. With all the activity of family being around for Zachary’s graduation, I got too busy to be posting and then after the graduation dinner, we took off on a little get-away. More on our get-away in another post. The weather was beautiful, the night of the dinner with no wind or rain and the temperature about 70°. Of course there was lots of preplanning. Tables and chairs had to be brought up from the garage to the lawn, table coverings put on and chairs wiped down. You can see Russell in the background stringing up lights that he wired. Russ also built a platform for…
A Book Lovers Tea Party for Young Ladies
The tea party club my daughter started almost 2 years ago with her Anne of Green Gables Tea Party (read about it here and here) is still continuing with this months tea party being hosted by Sophia, Meghan & Abigail. The tea party is for older girls but if the siblings have younger sisters, we welcome them, too. The theme was a “Ladies Book Society Tea Party”. What a fun theme that was! Audrey decided to go as Pigling Bland, the character Beatrix Potter writes about in The Tale of Piglind Bland. A few weeks prior to the tea party, Audrey wanted to play Pigling Bland with Justus so she got a stick and put a plastic grocery bag on the end. For the tea party,…
An American Girl Doll Party
Saturday’s big to-do was for Serenity’s 12th birthday. We decided to go with a doll theme. Several years ago Serenity and I went to the American Girl store in Chicago. What a good time we had together. We didn’t eat at the AG Cafe but we went in and took pictures. It was beautifully decorated in pink and black. We decided to use these colors for our party. Even though everyone did not have an AG doll, we knew that most, if not all, had 18″ dolls. We purchased our supplies at Hobby Lobby. (See the party hat Serenity made for her doll? She gave one to each girl as they arrived.) The dolls had their own table. The dolls needed something to eat while…
Host Your Own Anne of Green Gables Tea Party
Who cannot love the little orphan Anne of Green Gables? Her caring, vivacious and imaginative personality warms us, causes us to laugh and captures our hearts. Today I want to share with you ideas we had for an Anne of Green Gables Tea Party. In hostessing this party, Serenity first made her invitations. She found a picture of Anne online and placed that on the front of her invitations. Inside the invite she wrote: You’re invited to an afternoon of fun, friendship and tea in the spirit of Anne of Green Gables! We will be having a tea party at my house (Green Gables) and then going to the White Sands Hotel (our living room) to recite some poems. Where: Green Gables (xxxx Household) When:…
Tea Parties for Children & Hostess Skills
A week ago Serenity (11yo) hosted her first ever event – an Anne of Green Gables tea party. I was amazed to watch her planning skills and creativity blossom with this occasion. She’s a girl after my own heart. I always type up my plans on computer to help keep me organized. She was on top of it – everyday reviewing her notes of what needed to be done. The day before and morning of the tea party she was bustling around decorating and getting food ready. A little friend came to stay the night before and was also a wonderful help. Serenity and her friend, Katelyn, made these fruit kabobs… so that I could do this… The girls did a beautiful job decorating using…
