• A Christmas Tradition – Children’s Books

In 2000 we started a tradition of buying a children’s Christmas book each year. Each year we bring out all the Christmas books we have bought over the years and try to read them all at some point before we put them away till the following year. The first year we had The Candymaker’s Gift. It’s a story about the legend of the candy cane.   Then it was A Cricket’s Carol, a sweet book about a little orphan boy who finds a home and family.   Then we’ve had The Candle in the Window.   A Child’s Christmas at St. Nicholas Circle   Christmas Day in the Morning (…

  • Good Times with Family

Thanksgiving 2013 has come and gone but the memories we do have remind us of how wonderful it is to have family and friends.  I am so thankful for God’s hand in my life and my family.  I am also so thankful for the family of God and that includes YOU! Thanksgiving this year was at my big sis’s house. Thanksgiving outdoors? Yes! It truly was warm enough.   Our Thankful Tree even showed up.    My niece made homemade marshmallows.  In the past I’ve wondered how they could be that different from packaged ones from the store but they really are! They are SO much better. Really good! …but…

  • A Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Meal

Thanksgiving – a wonderful time to be with family and depending on the year, some friends, too. This year (like last year), our oldest won’t be here. My oldest that has been spending half the year (it feels like) in the Great White North has once again left for a second year with helping some friends in their commercial ice fishing operation. (Click on the links to see some of his past trips – it’s pretty interesting) Zachary, who was married this past May won’t be with us on Thanksgiving either.  I may have to adopt the Canadian Thanksgiving just to have my whole family here.  Thanksgiving in October? –…

  • Valentine’s Day Recap

Valentine’s Day ended up being pretty special for us. It was a hectic day since I had to run to town for a few appointments and didn’t get home till about 5 in the afternoon.  I had planned to have Chinese – egg rolls, egg drop soup and possibly making a Beef Chow Mein.  I had never made Beef Chow Mein but thought I would attempt it but then I started thinking of the schedule and decided I would just pick up a couple of things from the Chinese restaurant instead for our main dish. First we ate our egg rolls and egg drop soup at the kitchen table. (you…

  • Giving Love Notes & a Few Inexpensive Gifts for Valentine’s Day

I love having special traditions and celebrating occasions. Well guess what occasion I’m preparing for? Hint… it’s all about love and hearts. Valentine’s Day! So much fun making my family feel special and it also gives me a chance to be a little creative. My sweet and thoughtful family (I just lurve them!)  bought me a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas and I’ve been having fun with it!  You can go to their blog and see the kinds of things you can do with one.  They’re pretty amazing. So for the past week I’ve been giving them little notes   and putting them in mini mailboxes I bought at Target a few…
