• Painting a Wooden Headboard

I’m making progress people on my master bedroom! If you were to see my list of things to do in there – it is dated back to 2012. I am one slow mover! But a vision for what I’m wanting is clear in my mind (at least for 1/2 of the room). Remember that headboard I rescued from our burn pile? (You can read about my finds here.) I decided to see if it would work for my bedroom. First I lightly sanded it because it was starting to peel and blister from being left in the rain (before I rescued it). It’s not a high quality piece of wood.…

  • My Rustic Fall Mantle for 2014

It’s not officially fall but for me August always signifies Autumn so that’s when my decorations went up – sometime in the last part of the month. Since I’ve been on this quest of trying to learn some basics of decorating,  I’ve had so much fun changing my mantle with the seasons. I do have a storage container that I keep fall decorations in but then I also “shop” my house which makes it possible for me to introduce different elements into my mantle decor each season. Maybe I’ll run out of ideas eventually, I don’t know, but for now I’m going with it. That 1800’s looking man in the…

  • Furniture Rescue

Three roll-off dumpsters filled with junk were sent to the dump. I was okay with that, after all my son was cleaning up his new rental home. The owner had passed away and he must have had very eclectic interests for there were stamp collections, coin collections, books, silverware, all kinds of things.  He had it all. Things were going to the dump, wood was being unloaded in our scrap pile and then there were the collections that were being brought home so that research could be done to see if there was any resell value. But then just 2 days ago I was going by the scrap pile and…

  • Needing to Make a Decision

When you are unsure of yourself you can become the most indecisive, can’t-make-a-decision-for-the-life-of-you person around. And that’s where I’m at right now. I’m really considering making my own tufted headboard.  Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick makes it look so doable. Or my other option is to paint my current headboard using chalk paint. It would be painted a white with areas rubbed off to show the wood underneath which would give it more character in my opinion. A friend of mine did this to her kitchen table and it looks fabulous. I’m just scared I’ll mess the whole thing up. 🙁 Do you ever feel intimidated by projects you have…

  • Painting Horizontal Stripes in the Master Bedroom

I am so excited! I think I almost literally jumped up and down last night when I stepped into my bedroom. You see it’s been a long time. I’ve been wanting to do a master bedroom redo for a few years now and it’s finally happening. First I was waiting on my painter who never came or even returned my calls, then I had to wait a few weeks while my room was torn apart (furniture moved) waiting for my carpet to come in (it’s a long story). We moved into our home in December 1995 and at that time I did not know what color I wanted to paint…
