• Reclaimed Piece of Wood Turned Coat Hook

Many years ago, my oldest son made a chair out of pine as a part of our homeschool woodworking class.  It was a design of simple construction but having made something useful was fun and gave him an opportunity to see what woodworking was all about. This is the night of his highschool graduation celebration in 2008. Seth and his grandma (my mom) – and she is sitting in the chair he had made. It was showing wear even then so I’m not sure when he actually built it. But fast forward to 2013 and the arm of the chair broke in half. Me being the sentimental girl that I…

  • My 2013 Winter Mantle & Holiday Decorations

The pantry is in working order again, the fall decorations put away and the decorations out for the Christmas season. I have to thank my daughter Serenity for being so helpful.  She loves the little traditions we do each year and was eager to get everything decorated.  Between her and the younger ones, they did a lot. The winter village that we’ve had for years and is the kids’ absolute favorite thing. At night… The man used to have a fish on the end of his pole but that has disappeared.  This year Audrey had the bright idea to tear off a bit of marshmallow for the end of the…

  • What Happens When You Jump Into a Pantry Make-Over

It really started off as a whim. I was home with only my two youngest and really really wanting to paint my bedroom but since I didn’t have paint, that couldn’t happen. But then… oh, but then I stepped into my pantry (not telling why I was going in there) 🙂 when I saw this… And thought, “I should paint my pantry!” I’m glad I thought it would be a quick and easy project or I never would have started. Everything came out of the pantry and on to two tables in my kitchen. Oh yeah, and my counters.  In other words, stuff is everywhere! Two days spent painting in…

  • Make Your Own Chalkboard Scoreboard

Is it age? I don’t know but I’ve noticed that whenever we’re playing walleyball we seem to short circuit when it comes to knowing what the scores are, so I got the idea to add a chalkboard scoreboard in our walleyball court. (Wondering what a walleyball court is?  It simply is a racquetball court but you can also play walleyball using the court.  It’s a real sport and it’s lots of fun.  Check it out.) Simple and easy my project was but word of warning!  Be sure that when you spray that you are more careful than I was about the overspray.  🙂  Eek! I did do a bit of…

  • A Home on Wheels

We arrived home last night after spending a few days with Zachary down in Sierra Vista. He’s getting married in just a month! and we knew this would be the last opportunity we’d have to spend time with him alone. Usually he’s a little distracted since his fiance is here at our home when he is. Remember those days when your time together was never enough? 🙂 My boys and Russell went to work with him and me and the rest of the kids stayed behind at his little home on wheels. I was able to spruce things up a bit and do some organizing so that my new daughter-in-law…
