Trips We've Made

An Italian Eatery in Vienna, Austria

There is so much history in the city of Vienna! So much so that I went for 22 hours without eating. Let’s just say that is rather unusual for me. I love food! But there was so much to see and not enough time to see it all that food had to take a back seat. 🍽️

But after a day of touring the incredible Hofburg Imperial Palace (I will have to tell you all about it!), we took the recommendation of a local and went to Vapiano, a gourmet Italian eatery.

Warning: This post is for all foodies, so if you not really into that kind of thing or you are on a diet and don’t want to be tempted, you might want to skip this post.

You first decide if you want pasta, pizza, or soup and salad. (There are menus at each station.) Once you decide, you then get in line at that particular station (pasta & risotto station, pizza station, etc.) And it’s all gourmet items too. Behind the counter at each station are the chefs. After you reach the counter and tell the chef what you would like, he cooks it right before you.

Our chef was a no-nonsense kind of guy, rapping out questions about what we wanted and we were just scrambling to give him the answers pronto. After all, you don’t want to upset the chef! 😶 In his Austrian accent he asked Russell if he wanted cognac on his pasta. Before I could emit anything beyond “You…” Russell said, “Sure” (not having a clue what he was saying yes to) and before I could utter anything more than my feeble little “You” that chef had that cognac out and poured. ☺️ I don’t doubt it all evaporated 🤔 in the cooking process, but I thought it was pretty funny.

The seating area was the cutest.

Fresh herbs were part of the table centerpieces.

And the food…? It was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place – you know… if you just happen to be in the neighborhood.

We learned later in the trip to just ask for “tap” water but the water in the bottles are called “still” water. All of their water is delicious, most of it, if not all being Alpine water.

Just being silly wearing the big bibs provided.

Enjoyed reading and could imagine as well as about taste as you described. The other day when we were out of town we remembered we hadn’t checked your blog in awhile. Have been gone more than home here of late so fully distracted. I always enjoy your adventure tales…going to read one more and have to save the others for hopefully tomorrow. 🙂

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
