Gatherings,  Our Family

A Family Evening and a Gourmet Burger Bar

We have been so blessed to have the newlyweds here for the last month.  I think they’re enjoying their stay in the newly completed cabin (VRBO) very much, so we’re happy about that.

Their stay here is coming to an end since they leave next week for the east and then up to Canada. I have so enjoyed having them here and getting to know my daughter-in-law, Jessica better. She’s a sweetheart with the most giving heart, always bringing over something for us whether it be a fresh batch of cookies from the oven, a fresh baked loaf of bread or some juicy watermelon cut up on a plate for us.

Since the days are short that they’ll be here, we decided to have a backyard family supper.

(A little rope art made by Justus)

My two daughters-in-laws fixed the meal since I’ve been a little under the weather and they did a marvelous job. Hannah (my other daughter-in-law) is quite a cook and everything she makes is always so yummy.

We eat a lot of elk meat that our family has hunted and the Pioneer Woman hamburger recipe made with whipping cream and a few other ingredients is perfect for an otherwise dry and stronger type burger.

The gourmet burger bar was scrumptious.

It’s pretty amazing to think that my boys are married! Maybe I should be used to it but it’s still kind of surprising to me. haha

And we finished the evening with a little family croquet. 🙂

If you want to try Pioneer Woman’s burger recipe, here is the link.

And for the toppings – anything and everything… (edited to say… Pay no attention to the picture. I don’t mean the family cat! —-Good save by my husband! He was reading this post and noticed that my words and picture together might not be the best idea)

  • sauteed mushrooms
  • sauteed onions
  • sauteed bell peppers
  • raw onions
  • lettuce
  • tomatoes
  • pickles
  • cheese
  • avocado spread
  • bacon

Then when you have it all assembled, face the challenge of trying to fit your mouth around that big whompin’ gourmet burger. 🙂 You may even groan with delight from all the delicious goodness that meets your tastebuds. Don’t worry about it if you do, because your other dinner companions will be doing the same.
