Trips We've Made

An Eastward Trek With 15 Others

This is going to be hard for me to recount all the events of the last 10 days, but here goes! We just arrived home last night after a trip to Indiana to a youth camp my kids have been attending for years.

I think traditions are important and anything that makes an impact in my children’s spiritual life for the good is very high on my list of things we should do. I’m glad my husband shares that vision, too.

We left the evening of June 29 and at various stops picked up our remaining passengers.

We drive through the night and in the morning hours stopped in the small town of Shamrock, Texas for some breakfast and devotions.

Awhile later, when breakfast was finished, a Schwan’s truck went by but then stopped, backed up and the man driving it offered us all free ice cream.

He said he could tell we were Christians when he saw us. “God’s been good to me,” he said and he just wanted to do something for us.

It certainly blessed all of us. This kind of thing doesn’t happen much in Arizona that I’ve ever seen! The Lord will bless him; I’m sure of it.

Of course, boys being boys, they had to work off a little energy.

The kids kept themselves occupied for hours playing group games. One of the games was they had to follow some kind of hand motions and if they messed up they were given a challenge that they had to do until the next round.

We even made a little stop in Oklahoma to see some friends of ours and were treated to some delicious ice cream!

On the evening of our second day, after driving 30+ hours, we arrived at our destination!!

We arrived at the campground only to find that the previous campers had left a mess. The kids cheerfully volunteered their help and got to work!

My responsibility at the camp is to run the snack bar, so the next morning we picked up our order at the big warehouse S*am’s.

Getting the snack bar ready for the hungry kids.

And the strangest thing – they are starved only a few hours after supper!

And you know what happens next post… the rest of the story. 🙂
