Bike Rides and Ski Slopes – All in One Week

We are privileged to have one of the 7 natural wonders of the world in the state of Arizona – the Grand Canyon. It is truly a grand sight.

treasuring the moments.net 021One of our favorite things to do now when we go to the Canyon is to rent bikes and ride along the rim. Everyone can do it; it’s not so close to the rim that you are scared for your children or yourself, for that matter.

Believe it or not, we have ski resorts in Arizona – two of them!

Each year we travel to the White Mountains for a ski trip. This year was one of the best simply because we had fresh snowfall. It was the best snow I think I’ve ever skied in and it was my first time to ski for two days in a row since before I was married which made for one tired lady!

I got to ski with my Serenity and some of the other girls. I had to work at keeping up. I guess I’m too cautious for them! But it was an extremely enjoyable and fun time. Skiing is just a great sport.

There were so many that went this year. I think we’ve hit our maximum and will have to limit it next year. We stay at some time share condos and eat our dinners together at the clubhouse. We were pretty full there. The staff loves us and have treated us very well – opening up the kitchen in the club house for our use and allowing us to bring our own tables and chairs (since they don’t have enough on hand).

Enjoy the pictures.

Almost the entire group had lunch together at the top of the ski slopes. Everyone brought their packed lunches and rode the ski lift to eat at this cozy place with a view.

Wesley really impressed me with his snowboarding skills. I didn’t realize how good he had become over the last few years.

Loved skiing with these girls.203

I’m not in this group picture. I finally called it quits on the last run of the day. Traditionally, everyone gathers on top for a last run that they all do together. Our group is always the last ones on the slopes.220

We always get a lot of looks and questions about our skirts. “Is it a new trend?” “Where are we from?” A new one this year was we must be Amish polygamists. But overall people are nice about it. I was talking to one man (who was there from Washington) at the top of a hill and he said a group of Christian doctors come for a little retreat each year and to ski. He said we must always choose the same weekend because he’s seen us there for the last 6 years. Of course, I wouldn’t be able to pick him out next time, but we in our skirts aren’t too forgettable. He was very complimentary and that’s always a nice thing.

I had no idea there were ski and snowboarding resorts in the Grand Canyon, here in the UK I had always imagined Arizona to be arid. Some great photos in this post, the White mountains look beautiful.

Arizona, California & Florida are the most diverse states in the USA. There are no ski slopes at the Grand Canyon, you have to either drive to Flagstaff which is about 2 hours away or to the White Mountains where we were. There are many amazing places to visit in Arizona, that’s for sure!

A bike ride through the canyons looks phenomenal, the colours in the background at the rocks in the canyon is beautiful with all the reds screaming outwards.

How long did the bike trek last from start to finish? or how do you plan for it?

Rent bikes and ride along the rim. What a smart idea! It’s not only improve our health but also help us enjoy the spectacular scenery. By the way, these pictures are so nice. I mean both the nature and people are so beautiful.

Wow I would LOVE to bike there. That road looks very smooth for a mountain! Did not expect that. Do they regularly perform maintenance on that road? I imagine it gets very hot in the summer and the asphalt cracks.

That looks like an amazing place to go for a ride. The scenery is awesome and so good that you can actually rent bikes locally. I’d love to visit the Grand Canyon one day and will certainly go for a ride if I do.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
