Organizing the Garage – the Beginning

Happy Thursday to you all!  Thanks for the sweet comments about the wedding.  I have fully recuperated even though things aren’t all put away yet. Oy.  It’s true but I’m getting there. Almost. ha!  I do have a decluttering mood coming on me.  Since the start of our book business, we have lost all of our storage space and everything is now in the garage. I’m kind of thinking I would like to get rid of some of those things to make room for more of the items I use when feeding large crowds.

Did you know we have 11 ice chests, 17 tables, 123 chairs & 4 freezers in there?

Those are things we use regularly – well maybe not 11 ice chests and 2 of the freezers except when you have a son getting married but regardless, those things will be staying.

It’s really a challenge to stay on top of stuff.

Clutter control is needed!

“Organization isn’t about perfection; it’s about efficiency, reducing stress and clutter, saving time and money and improving your overall quality of life.” ― Christina Scalise

So what could I get rid of to make organizing the rest of it easier?  I think the main culprit is kids clothing. I’m ready to let it go or let someone else store it.  “Yoo-hoo!” Do you hear me my dear sisters? 🙂

Some tips I have found for organizing your garage are:

1. Work your walls. Use all the wall space available.  Well that’s not a problem.  Currently every wall, except one, and the center of the garage have free standing shelves.

2. Before reorganizing, try taking everything out of your garage. There’s no way I’m doing that!  Now taking everything out of the garage that’s in the walkways is a different story.  I can do that.

3. Decide what to keep, what to donate, and what to throw away. When you find yourself questioning a particular item, ask yourself :

  • Do I love it?
  • Do I need it?
  • When was the last time I used this?

(I definitely like this idea.)

Monday just could be D-Day. Stay tuned.  Inspiration sometimes is fickle and it might just decide to leave me by then.  Keep your fingers crossed. 🙂

But surely a sight like this is enough to motivate anybody! Yikes!
