Painting an Old Picture Frame & Making a Chalk Board
Well how do you like that?! I left you all hanging without even a heeelllo to you this week.
I’ve been busy doing some deep cleaning. I got inspired after going for a day to my MIL’s and helping her. My FIL was hit and ran over by a car 2 months ago and so mom has been his personal care assistant since he got out of the hosptial. She has nights off because all her boys (my husband included) each take a night on with dad so that she can get some rest. Since Christmas is right around the corner and the whole family will be gathering for a 3 day get-together, I offered to help her do some cleaning. Dear Serenity got to come along, too. 🙂
I then came home and started on my Flylady zone for the week. Whew! the dust on the walls! But let’s not talk about that today. I want to share with you a project I did.
Over a year ago (ahem!) I bought an old gold frame at a garage sale. The other day while browsing blogs, I finally got the inspiration I needed at All Things Home. I can’t find the post right now but it’s her 2011 Winter mantle.
Here’s my garage sale frame getting ready to have a new look.
First I spray painted the frame and matte white. All I had on hand was the cheapest spray paint you can get at Wal-Mart. $.97 I covered the glass but later had to remove the glass so I could spray the chalkboard paint on it.
Here it is all finished. I love it!
I’m working on my winter mantle display (having FUN, too!) and this frame is part of it.
On December 7, Rhoda at Southern Hospitality will be hosting a Winter Mantle Link-up Party. All kinds of inspiration so be sure to check it out.

I never thought of making a picture frame into a chalkboard! It looks really neat and I’m sure your winter mantel will be beautiful.
It feels lovely when the house is sparkling, doesn’t it?! I deep cleaned the bathroom, due to some mold that I saw when we took up the linoleum. I scrubbed it with bleach the first time, but later read that bleach won’t kill mold, so I scrubbed it two more times with ammonia. Hoping the mold is really dead.

I’ve always wondered if that chalkboard paint work good and never thought of doing it over glass…you gave me a great idea for a spot I need to fill. Next year you may see I copycated you 😉 And I would love to have tea with you on that Christmas china 🙂 I used to get Spiegel cataloges all the time but I don’t remember seeing advertisements for them so maybe they aren’t around anymore. Happy Holidays!!

Mary, The chalkboard paint works pretty well, but it’s a must to have the right chalk. The can tells you what chalk to get. I actually use sidewalk chalk.

Very cute! I’ve been looking for a fun frame to make this project for my “menu” board in my kitchen. Found you on Tip Junkie.

Thanks for the comment and visit, Susan. I love the idea of a menu board. It could either be hung on the wall or put on an easel.

I really like this! You’re so creative.
I hope your Dad feels better soon, Lord willing. 🙂
God Bless!
