Our Family,  Trips We've Made

Justus’s Phonics Trip to Lake Powell

The last few days has been spent trying to get Treasuring the Moments back up and running.  But it’s up and no lost posts!  Yea!!

A few days after Zachary’s graduation, our family went on a get-away to Lake Powell.  Lake Powell is an absolutely gorgeous lake with 1,900 miles of shoreline and is the 2nd largest man-made lake in the U.S.

Here’s the reason we went…

This little guy.  Justus is 8 years old and has finished his phonics course which takes about 2 years to complete.  When our kids finish their phonics we let them pick somewhere in Arizona to visit as a reward.  Of course, the kids all love Lake Powell and so we have went there for almost everyone’s phonics trip. 🙂

This trip was just as enjoyable as the first time that we went.

The lake is surrounded by toweing cliffs of sandstone and there are little coves that you can go into and as you keep going, it gets narrower and narrower and sometimes you can even end up in something like a cave.  Most of the time you will need a water bike to get in the narrow areas.

Our beautiful camp spot – that took a mini-hike just to get to it Because it was surrounded by 3 canyon walls, our campsite never had any sun touch it.  Which was a very good thing since the weather was quite warm – in the low 100’s!

I kind of liked how this small “cave” held our gas cans.

We’re back home now.

Seth, who had flew in from Ohio for the graduation, has gone back…

Zachary has headed back down south to Sierra Vista for his job…

and now we’re adjusting once again to the new “normal” – of having part of the family gone.
