Shopping List App

I’m pretty much behind the times when it comes to iPod’s, iTouch’s & iPhone’s.  The rest of my family have iPod’s but not me and I actually have no real interest in getting one.  My phone is a pretty old one passed on to me by my dear hubby.  However, this past summer I was bitten by the “technology bug” when my good friend showed me her iTouch and I fell in love!  The little icons you could just touch with your fingers to use, the versatility and ease of use looked so attractive.  I was completely impressed.   The price tag on those things is not too nice though and I didn’t even know if I could justify getting one off the used market.  Then Christmas rolled around and my dear loving children all pitched in and bought me an iTouch.  They have never seen me squeal so much over a gift before but I was/am ecstatic!

My feelings on the iTouch haven’t changed.  I have found it to be absolutely awesome.  I have a huge library of sermons that I listen to every day, songs, etc.  I can sync the notes I make on Microsoft Outlook with my iTouch and vice versa.  I did not want a iPhone because my phone is shared around a lot and I knew if the kids needed it, I would then be without anything.  So the iTouch is perfect.  We don’t live in a Wi-Fi area so I hardly ever use the Internet feature.

Here are some of my favorite features:

  • hundreds of sermons/music
  • timer
  • various podcasts (downloaded from iTunes)
  • notes (synched with my main computer using Microsoft Outlook) love this!
  • shopping list app

There are many apps you can download for free but the shopping list app I purchased for $2.99.  Here is how it works.

You can add any store you shop at to the list.  Then when you need something from that store, you select that store and add the item.  You also have a few options such as choosing categories for your item as well as putting in quantities & prices.  You can turn on or off these features as you like.

As you pick the items up at the store, you touch the little box on the screen which adds a little check mark saying you now “have” that item.  As you keep using your lists, it becomes sort of a master list because the items are never deleted.  There are 3 selections you can choose for viewing –

  • Need/Have
  • Need
  • Have

How you use it as a master list is simply this way – say you need milk, you just scroll down the items in your Have list or you can use the Need/Have list and find “milk”.  All you have to do is uncheck it and it will be added to your Need list.  As your shopping list gets built up over time, you will have everything that you normally purchase on there and you will be able to just scroll through your list and say, “Oh, yes, I need ketchup, eggs & toilet paper.”  Uncheck those items and they’re added to your current shopping list.

If you have chosen to enter prices and quantities in, it will keep a running total as you are shopping and you’ll know the approximate costs of your purchases before you get to the checkout.

The name of the app is ShopList.  Here is the link.  You can see some screenshots as well.  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shoplist/id287295854?mt=8

If you have a favorite app, share it here.  I’d like to check it out.

Whoa! I want one now! 😀 That’s totally my kind of app! I love doing lists like that, figuring up in Excel what I get, with the costs and knowing what I’ll be spending (aproximately) before I even go to the store. (Haven’t done it in a little while…the little one takes up most of my time. :p )

Thanks for the link! Now to go convince Jordan that I need an i-touch for shopping… :p 😀

    Wow! That’s impressive!
I have a master shopping list for grocery shopping. The items are listed in the order that I find them in the store, with quantities and prices. It helps me stay within our budget. I think I could get used to an i-touch really easily!

Oh, Lily you would love an itouch. You sound so organized. I would love to read a blog you wrote someday. 🙂

Love it…I use the shopping app too and it is so nice to check the ads, and make a list for any of the stores I need to take advantage of sale in, and then have it set up so that it shows up in order by aisle…makes shopping a breeze! Love my iPod for all the messages and music I can listen too….even if I want to get in a walk while I’m at it. Glad you get to have one.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
