Week in Review 9/19/10

Yesterday, the last of my house guests left.  We had a such a wonderful weekend with friends and excellent anniversary meetings at our church that blessed everyone.

We had a pot-luck at our house on Saturday so there was lots of preparation for that.  A large event is good for us to have once in a while because it helps us stay on top of the yard work instead of neglecting it. With my boys and Russell working around here it felt like we had our own yard maintenance company! Zachary himself spent almost a week getting things in order.

Some of us had it easy.

On Saturday we ended up feeding almost 200 people. The theme for the meal was Italian. Each of the ladies at our church made a main dish for 10. It was really fun to see what people decided to contribute. We did not end up with all lasagnas, by the way. 🙂 The ladieswere creative and some of the variety we had was peppers rustica, eggplant, fettuccine alfredo, grilled pizzas, a shrimp dish, chicken dish & yes, I do believe a few lasagnas were slipped in there, too! 🙂

I had a great time. I love doing this kind of thing. We have our own tables and chairs and my brother-in-law gave us a tent when he closed his furniture store. It makes things easy when you have all the equipment you need for this type of event.

After church on Sunday, the good fellowship continued but with a smaller crowd of about 50. Since we always have house guests during any kind of occasion, I usually plan to come home after church for some lunch. For me it is so relaxing because you don’t have to have everything in order – you can just be casual about the whole affair.

It was a lovely day. Some of the kids sang for 4-5 hours making melody to the Lord. It was beautiful.

Monday, some of our friends left to go home and the rest of us went to one of our most favorite places in Arizona – Tonto Natural Bridge.

The boys love to test their rock climbing skills when they go there.

The evening ended with supper in a little town called Strawberry.

All good things must come to an end, so friends and family have all went back to their homes and now I must pay some attention to mine.  A little tidying up is in order after the whirlwind weekend.
