Our Family,  Trips We've Made

A Third Trip to Havasupai – Day 4

Friday dawned and our group started hiking out of Havasupai in small groups as they were ready to leave.

For my nephew, Russell and myself, we stayed a little longer because we were riding the horses out of the canyon. Russell’s ankle was still giving him some issues and Enoch had turned his ankle while at Havasupai. So, I joined them. 🙂 $85 one-way and you are allowed to carry a day pack.

They said it would take 2 1/2 hours to get out of Havasupai…

…but it only took us 1 1/2 hours as we trotted and galloped our way out of the canyon. I guess our Indian guide took us at our word when we said we had experience with horses because we never did take it easy. It was go, go, go. The trotting was the worst because my little horse had a terrible gait.

Poor Russell decided that walking out would have felt better on his ankle than riding the horse. I looked back and saw him sitting cockeyed in his saddle and was going to tell him that he looked like he was going to fall off but then I saw he was trying to keep his leg sticking out to alleviate pressure on his foot.

It was quite fun passing everyone on the trail as they were scattered along the 8 mile hike but we barely made it to the top before some of the first hikers got there.

From the top we could see some of our party beginning the final 1 mile ascent, the hardest part of the whole hike.

Waiting to congratulate them as they make the last steps out of the canyon.

I’m happy to report that all our hikers made it out by 10:30am – tired and weary but they did it!

Havasupai 2017 is in the books!

The fun didn’t end there. We all went back to the house and almost everyone was there for the next few days. It was a memorable time.

6 chefs making 2 apple crisps. Oh yum! or Oh no! No one to blame if it doesn’t turn out, I guess.

My niece and me.

On one of those last few days with everyone there something happened but I’ll have to tell you about it next time.
