A Second Trip to Havasupai – Day 3
Starting off at 7:30am to hike 9 miles out of the Supai village, you stay in the shade of the canyon walls that surround you for most of the hike. The rocks are stunning. I love the majestic and rugged feel of the canyon walls.
The two small rocks caught in between the two outcroppings, I found interesting.
One of the girls spotted this little weed which made a perfect cross caught in between two rocks. It was only about 2″ tall.
Miss Audrey did so good after her recent sickness. So happy she’s not ill anymore!
(Test results for her came back positive for Q Fever a rare sickness for humans to get and is caused by contact with farm animals that have just been born that also have it. There is an antibiotic for humans to take but since she overcame it naturally, she did not need to. I guess she got it because her immune system wasn’t as strong as it should have been.)
Oh yes! Only 1 more mile to go!!
We had stocked an ice chest with drinks and packed it with plenty of ice for all the hikers as they came out of the canyon. One of the drinks were frappucinno’s and I knew they would probably be gone by the time I got out (I’m always the last one remember? haha), so some of my kind and most gracious fellow hikers saved me one and were waiting up top to give it to me.
I can do this for a frappucinno! Ha!
I was excited to find out at the end of the hike that I beat my time from last year hiking out… by 40 minutes.
3 hours and 50 minutes it took for me to hike the 9 miles.
Havasupai is a 2,000′ elevation loss/gain whereas the Grand Canyon is a 5,000′ elevation loss/gain.
Of course we had to take more pictures.
They were so very tired
but also victorious…
But truly we were probably the most tired!
Lunch at the Road Kill Cafe and then we were off for home.
Where piles of backpacks were unloaded. 🙂
I’m already looking forward to going again! It’s so beautiful and always such a good time.
Our hike to Havasupai may have ended but not the good times with our visitors. Next post! 🙂
