Building a Home of Their Own
Two-and-a-half years ago I became a mother-in-law.
Seventeen months ago I became a grandma for the first time.
And any day now, Shalom will have a new brother or sister and I’ll be a grandma for the second time! And one thing that I think is really neat is that the same midwife I had when delivering Zachary will be the same one to deliver this new little one.
Not only will Zachary and Hannah be welcoming their second bundle of joy soon, but they have another exciting thing happening in their life. They are building their own home! This past weekend they had an old-fashioned “barn raising”. What a blessing it was to have different ones come and put their efforts into helping get the house up. Come along and I’ll show you the progress they made in two days.
It all started with just a slab of concrete…
but with the help of many others….
by the end of the first day it looked like this.
My dad and mom were able to make it to the party and my dad supervised since that is his area of expertise.
I loved watching everyone working together…
…the team spirit was really high…
The kids felt important and were scrambling around moving wood and whatever else needed to be done (including work on the roof).
I told them they were taking a college course.
My dad, husband and son (for whom the house is being built).
Us ladies provided lunch and desserts both days.
Lasagna one day…
And Mexican another day…
My mom with her great-granddaughter (my grandbaby).
And of course, we had to have a little sparkling cider to celebrate.
It was tremendous to see what could be done with the help of many hands. People giving of their time to bless others. It was just great!
And then… we had to say goodbye to my son (once again) as he left for Canada for his commercial ice fishing adventure. This year he’ll be running his own fishing lines so he’s excited about that.
See you at Christmas, son!♥
