Weary Travelers
It is 7:30am am here at the Addis Ababa airport. Do you know what country I am in?
If you guessed Ethiopia, you can reward yourself because that’s exactly right. I’d never heard of this city until I saw it on my flight connections.
It is now Thursday and we’ve been traveling since Tuesday evening. Only another 4 hour flight and we’ll have reached our destination. Yea!
So far we’ve landed in Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Vienna and Addis Ababa with our final stop being Kinshasa.
But I have bad news to report.
My. Luggage. Is. Lost.
I can hardly believe it and am praying that it will show up in time for the wedding. There is no record of it in the system when we first reported our missing bag but since we’ve been unable to get wi-fi we have no idea if it’s on its way or not.
The airports have been interesting. London-Heathrow and Amsterdam both have a large amount of high end stores for one to shop at. A mall within an airport. Stores devoted to clothes, shoes, watches, perfume, makeup, and more.
I found Amsterdam the most confusing and London and Vienna the most attractive. Frankfurt, Germany had some interesting features.
These reclining chairs were in some areas.
They also had smoke rooms made of glass. You could see all those that had to have their cigarette inside with smoke curling up around them. I couldn’t help but think that I was looking in on cubicles of death as the people sucked in the air that was circulating around.
German security was also interesting. I’ve never had such a thorough pat down in my life.
One very nice thing is that almost every airport had signs in English. Very nice, indeed.
So you’ve probably heard enough about airports for the time being but after being to 5 airports in the last day and a half, I can do a little comparing.
We said a quick goodbye to the girls in Amsterdam since we had to run to make our connecting flight.
They were in good hands with their Dutch host.

It’s so fun to be “on the trip with you”!

Thank you, Kaitlyn. It’s nice to take you along. 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Loved visiting Zaire (what it was called back then) long time ago. Hope they don’t try and charge you an arm and a leg to leave from airport being Americans, like they did us saying our bags too heavy. I can’t wait to see photos of the wedding. Hope your luggage finds you and not stolen. So much can happen in those countries and they get by with it. 😔

Actually, it was British Airways that lost my luggage. It never even left the US. Still haven’t found it. 🙁

Checking every day for another post about your trip!

Thanks, Sis. Holly. We’re home now and I’m working on it. I realized that it was going to be too difficult on the trip because of the amount of pictures I wanted to share, so I decided to wait till we got back.

Sorry to hear about your lost luggage 🙁
Re: smoke rooms, I’ve seen them around Japan too. Sometimes they’re enclosed in a glass-covered room. Other times, they’re just a separate section with really good vents for sucking up the smoke.
Those reclining chairs looked really comfy! Perfect for weary travelers. I can only wish most airports have them 😉
