While I have been missing here at Treasuring the Moments, I have not been sitting around. No, we have been busy with friends, family, trips and adventures. It has been a delightful month thus far.
After catering the wedding the second week of January, we had some visitors come by for a few days. We had to show them some of our favorite spots… like this mine.
What we weren’t expecting on our outing was the fuel pump to quit on our off-road vehicle. But before we realized that, we thought we had just run out of gas, so while Russell left to go find some abandoned plastic tubing to use as a siphon hose for the truck we had also brought along, we went for a hike.
When we got back, the men tried in vain to siphon gas but there were just too many restrictors in the neck of the fuel tank.
The funny thing was I had asked him before we left to go on our outing if he needed gas. “No,” he says, “I just checked it.” What we didn’t know was that he had checked it a month ago! ๐
Thankfully, even though we could not start the Blazer, Russell could drive it back out of the mountains since it was downhill much of the way and when it wasn’t, vehicle power from our truck or good ole’ fashioned manpower did the trick. ๐
ย When we reached the nearest “town”, comprised of about 4 buildings, we stopped at this place to see if the owner had any gas to sell us.
I don’t know how much business his yard sale brings but apparently he does get enough stranded people that have ran out of gas to warrant him keeping it on hand.
We thought all would be well now that we had filled our Blazer with gas, but lo, that is when we realized the problem was
deeper
then no gas.
It was a fuel pump issue.
Bad!
And we had to tow our little “gem” of a vehicle all the way home! Wah, wah, wah!
But what’s an adventure without a little mishap? We told our friends that everyone has to have their own “story” when they come to visit us – and they did.

I have no way of proving this, but I think Russell decides, before people arrive, what kind of “story” they should have. And I also think, after so many years, he runs out of “stories” and has to start over because this one sounds very similar to one of our “stories”. (Yes, there is more than one and we lived to tell about them).
In loving memory of being cold and singing under a tarp while waiting to be rescued.

It was a freezing(!) ride home on the quad that night for Russell and me. I love the picture we have from that adventure – in the Blazer with a tarp. Great memory. You’re right that was only 1 story. Then there was the bike trip… unforgettable. ๐ What will our Havasu hike be like??? Let’s find out, yes? Maybe another story to add to our books. haha

Yes, we surely could have used a tow truck but we made do. I guess we’re used to it and come prepared. haha
