Painting Horizontal Stripes in the Master Bedroom
I am so excited! I think I almost literally jumped up and down last night when I stepped into my bedroom.
You see it’s been a long time. I’ve been wanting to do a master bedroom redo for a few years now and it’s finally happening. First I was waiting on my painter who never came or even returned my calls, then I had to wait a few weeks while my room was torn apart (furniture moved) waiting for my carpet to come in (it’s a long story).
We moved into our home in December 1995 and at that time I did not know what color I wanted to paint my room so the painters just put a flat white on the walls, it might have even been primer (I have no idea). So for 18 1/2 years it has sat while I tried to decide what color I wanted. Since I was just a young mother with 3, 4, 5 and then 6 kids I kind of just forgot about the whole thing until about 2 years ago.
I’ve had my list of things I wanted to do in my room now for 2 years and that is why I am so excited about this project getting off the ground!
After not painting it all these years you’ll be interested to know that I finally decided on the color…. White!
I know, It was a real leap of faith to go with it but I wanted my room to look bright and airy and white seems to be a great way to achieve that. But I did add some color in the form of horizontal stripes.
Just on one wall…
There are many tutorials online for how to get straight lines but we just put some pencil dots on the wall where we wanted our Frog Tape to go – had one person holding one end of the tape and another on the opposite end. I would support the center of the tape while they affixed their ends. Then we’d smooth it on.
In the picture below, the top stripe is the best representation of the color.
They turned out perfectly straight (at least to the eye) and we had no paint bleeding through the Frog Tape.
The paint came from Home Depot. We chose Glidden’s Crisp Linen White 61YY8 and for the blue horizontal stripes we chose Behr’s Celtic Gray 490E-3.
The carpet arrived yesterday and our carpet installer installed it in the afternoon. So we’re moving forward, folks. 🙂

Well this made me feel good. I thought I was the only one who would take YEARS to decide what color I wanted to paint my walls. I can’t wait to see your finished project!

I’m probably one of the slowest people EVER! I can’t wait to see my finished project, too. Hoping it won’t be toooooo long. 🙂

I’m chomping at the bit but it will have to be put on hold for a while until I have more time. But I’m excited for the progress that has been made.

I never used frog tape before, but will look for it here in South Africa, I normally use making tape, but have to be careful as if you paint too thick then it does bleed,
