Decorating,  Our Family

A Home on Wheels

We arrived home last night after spending a few days with Zachary down in Sierra Vista.

He’s getting married in just a month! and we knew this would be the last opportunity we’d have to spend time with him alone. Usually he’s a little distracted since his fiance is here at our home when he is. Remember those days when your time together was never enough? 🙂

My boys and Russell went to work with him and me and the rest of the kids stayed behind at his little home on wheels. I was able to spruce things up a bit and do some organizing so that my new daughter-in-law wouldn’t be too overwhelmed by where to put all her belongings when they are married in May.  At least I hoped I helped some.

Audrey had a ball helping me do laundry there at the trailer park.  She wanted to do it every day. 🙂

I have no pictures of his home on wheels (travel trailer) except for a few organizing shots I took.  These little organizers were my favorite.  When you’re living in a travel trailer, you want every bit of space to count!

I told Serenity she could do this job since she’s so young and spry.

Since I have no pictures of his little home… and most people wonder about living in a travel trailer, let me show some of the possibilities of how you can make these homes on wheels beautiful and personal.

These are all vintage trailers but the same could be done for a modern one as well.

Aren’t they amazing?!  I just love them!  I know living in a trailer can be done because our family did it ourselves – for about 7 years!  And we enjoyed it!  Someday I’ll have to share a little of that time with you all.

There are all kinds of situations people find themselves in.  What about the lady that lives in a 90 square foot apartment in Manhattan and pays $700 a month for the privilege? Watch her video to see how she does it.

Zachary is choosing to stay in the trailer for now because Sierra Vista is not where he wants to put down his roots and because it’s cheaper than an apartment.  Hannah is very willing to live wherever but we are wondering how she’s going to keep herself busy.  (That might be a nice problem to have, no?)

Question:  What hobby or hobbies would you want to do if you were a newlywed and living in a small space?

How very sweet of you and Serenity! You are going to be an awesome mother-in-law! We had a tiny, up-stairs apartment when we were first married. I treasure every memory we made in it and wouldn’t have traded it for the world. We had company over for meals, planned and hosted young people’s get togethers, we even had about a dozen guys camp out on our living room floor for a weekend. We started a choir for the young people. I made treats and made friends with our neighbors, who were mostly elderly. One older lady taught me to knit. My days were filled making from-scratch meals, cleaning my house everyday (I was reminded by a friend that I used to mop daily. 🙂 (The floors get it once a week whether they need it or not, now!) I did a lot of sewing. It would be nice to make a scrapbook of your first year, sew a quilt, prepare baby clothes 😉 enjoy going back to bed after you get your husband off to work for the day, read through the Bible in a year, read lots of books and get to know your husband! Enjoy every minute of this very special time!

So many suggestions. I love how you “lived” life instead of putting it on hold while living in a small apartment.

The last picture is so cute! I would spend time reading….fixing up “house”…make a cute sitting area outside if possible to have a place to enjoy fresh air and to entertain if more people…take walks …learn a new hobby…visit an elderly person once a week. Just a few ideas. 🙂

Mary, For Hannah’s shower my niece gave her a wooden whiskey barrel and a watering can with seeds. Hannah was so excited about it because she loves flowers. So you’re thinking right along with her when you say “make a cute sitting area outside”. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

    How sweet!

Well, when I’m bored, I like to work on a sewing project, call friends, listen to something (audio drama, Brother Branham, etc.) and do something with my hands(quiltng or beading, most of the time.) It’s always great to spend some extra time reading the Bible and very nice to write/schedule blog posts… and cook – because food makes EVERYONE in my family happy. ‘Specially if it’s dessert. 😀

    Anyway.

    There’s my two cents 😉

Well, I feel like it’s all been covered. One thing about a smaller area to take care of and clean is you can get it all done more quickly, have time for crafts, walks/hikes, or whatever else you like to do. I’m not one to get bored easily because my mind is always thinking up something to do, but for sure wherever I was, I would have to set up a beautiful seating area outside as well as doing whatever it took to make a cozy place inside to live and enjoy looking at. Not matter how big or how small it is always fun to “set up house” and cozy it up and make it feel cheery and cozy…and of COURSE, romantic. 🙂

Loved your organizing racks, by the way.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
