Why I Bought Rabbits & Other Interesting(?) News About Our Weekend
Saturday, I felt like I was operating a granola factory. I made 26 pounds of granola. Whew! Using only one oven, it took me most of the day. Next time I think I might try 2 ovens and see if I can expedite things.
This is my Pecan Cranberry Granola…
Saturday, Russell brought me home these 2 little bunnies I found on Craigslist. I’m wanting to use their manure as fertilizer for my garden. If I get it planted. For some reason, the whole garden thingy is intimidating me. Zachary’s not here to do it (he’s working and living about 5 hours from home) so it’s just little ol’ me that’s left to get it going.
I think it may be because it’s such a big area. It just looks scary. But I guess I would be better off planting a few carrots than none at all.
When Seth returned from Ohio last summer, he brought me back several bags of “gold” – compost they made on the farm where he was living. I’ll be using that to give my seeds/plants a good start. If I get that garden planted.
Can you believe I bought a buck and a doe rabbit? Do you think I’m crazy? I’m sure my husband thinks I am.
And finally, I want to end this post by saying how wonderful it is to know God and to be loved by Him.
Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in spring-time. ~Martin Luther

The granola looks delicious! You are a brave soul to make so much at once. Your garden will be so worth it! We’
ve been so busy this month that Anna volunteered to do all the planning for me. She planned the garden, looked up the moon sign, she & Kara started the seeds & she has been faithfully taking care of them. What a blessing!
What kind of work is Zachary undertaking? I’m sure you miss him terribly, especially now that it’s garden time.
We get our “black gold” from our neighbor’s horses. Sounds like you should have plenty to work with before long!
Praying you have a blessed day!

Zachary’s working at the military fort right now. It’s him, his 2 cousins and his boss (who is a believer). I never can remember what exactly it is they do but it’s something with wiring. All the classroom have to get new wiring to run computers, etc.
Have you found planting with the moon to be the way to go?

We did an experiment once where we planted some seeds during a “fertile” moon sign (cancer) and some under a “dead” sign. The “fertile” plants were robust & healthy while the “dead” plants came up sparcely and were very spindly. I try to start the seeds under the “cancer” sign, if possible. I’m not so picky about transplanting them on certain days, although I do keep it in mind. (If it’s snowing and cold and the right day, I do not plant) likewise if it’s sunny & nice and not the right sign, I may transplant anyway. I’m not a fanatic about it, but find it interesting and it does seem to work. I did use it to wean all of my children and to start potty training when they were little. I found it very helpful.
