How We Are Killing Ourselves
Did you know that if you are like the rest of the American population that you are killing yourself, not to mention harming your children and future generations that aren’t born yet? Life, Health & Happiness – that’s what we all want for ourselves and our children but yet we really don’t seem serious about it when it comes to the food we give them.
Please don’t click away from this article because you think you’re not interested. My faithful young commenters Anna & Zoe – this is for you, too. This topic effects everyone that eats anything at any time in any place. Would that refer to any of my readers? 🙂 It is by no means comprehensive but maybe it’s enough to challenge us all to dig deeper into the nutrition that our family gets and the foods we eat.
Naughty, naughty, naughty! You were going to click away weren’t you? But really, this post might take you 2 minutes to read but it could change your life. How’s that for a bargain – 2 minutes of your time for your life?
Let me get right to it then since I only have 2 minutes!
I have been reading/skimming a book called Nutritional and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price, D.D.S. I say skimming because there are 526 pages and it can be pretty wordy and intense… but it’s absolutely fascinating as well.
Dr. Price and his wife went around the world visiting many different cultures, studying their diet and nutrition. Here’s an excerpt that Wikipedia had to say about him.
The book concludes that aspects of a modern Western diet (particularly flour and sugar) caused nutritional deficiencies that were a root cause of many dental issues and health problems. The dental issues he observed include the proper development of the facial structure (to avoid over-crowding of the teeth) in addition to dental caries. (Taken from Wikipedia)
In the book, which you can purchase from Amazon, Dr. Price has over 100 photos, which show you exactly what he’s trying to tell you throughout the book.
Now that you have had that mini introduction to Dr. Price, let me attempt to relate to you a small portion of what I learned.
What White Man’s Food Will Do To You
In cultures where the modern white man’s diet had been introduced, the people and the offspring were affected. The dental arch would narrow, making for teeth that had no place to go. Dental caries were prevalent with teeth that were rotting, broken, missing.
There are so many photos you can see that show this and how your facial features are affected when the dental arch is not as it should be.
Not only did the people’s teeth become affected, but sometimes it would cause club feet and cleft palate, as well as other troubles.
The cultures that had not been touched by white man’s food were also very careful to eat foods, before they had conceived and during their pregnancy, that were beneficial to ftheir uture babies. Dr. Price found that these people were able to have children easily compared to those living with modern white man’s food. I almost forgot to mention that back in Dr. Price’s day there was a physician that noticed that with the introduction of white flour, when the vitamin B and another one which I cannot remember was removed, there was a noticeable increase in infertility.
He talks about the problem in his day of womans pelvis’ narrowing, making it difficult for children to be born – especially male babies since they tend to have larger heads.
I can only briefly touch upon what I learned in this post – I would definitely recommend the book.
Pay heed mothers and young ladies to this next point. I read this part to my daughter because I think it is so important.
Young Ladies, if You Read Nothing Else, Read This…
When you are growing, your bones are soft – as they lengthen. During this critical time you must give them all the vitamins and minerals that they need. If you don’t, they will get it – but at the cost of your other bones. They borrow from them. There is one study in the book, showing a young lady that ended with curvature of the spine due to this.
Do not be dieting during this important time, depriving yourselves of the very things that will strengthen and nourish you. If anything, remove all sugars from your diet. This will regulate your weight and improve your health.
With all the denatured food that has been touched by man in a million different ways, we can never have a superb diet but we don’t have to take the attitude “What does it matter, since we’re all going to die anyways?” Remember, there’s all that time between now and then that you have to live,.
Put into your bodies that which sustains and builds.
In a future post, I want to share some resources that may help you and some suggestions on what you should eliminate in your diet.

Cannot wait for more 🙂

I’ve been wanting to read that book, but haven’t done so yet. I think it’s amazing how our food choices affect not only our health but that of the future generations. Thanks for the very informative reminder and encouragement to cut out the sugar and processed flour. (We had pizza, chips and chocolate chip cookies last night.)

The supper of champions. ha ha
I think for us the biggest thing is the sugar. Everyone loves a good dessert now and then and what about cinnamon rolls and all that good stuff? It’s hard to completely give up. Moderation in all things, I guess – even desserts!
