31 Days of Kitchen Inspiration Day 11: Built-in Seating in the Kitchen

Built-in Seating or Banquettes

As I was looking at built-in seating for the kitchen I kept coming across the word banquette.

Definition: n. Banquette – A long upholstered bench placed against or built into a wall.

So the following pictures that show built-in seating could also be described as banquette’s.

Built-in seating can also give you extra storage underneath.

These wooden seats look comfortable.  Some pretty material for the cushions would really add to it. built-in seating

Imagination + Igenuity = some great ideas

I’m not an expert in kitchen design but looking at pictures can give me inspiration.

What about you? How do you gather your ideas?

I have always wanted a built in eating area like those, but sadly, have not lived in a house that could accommodate my dreams. Maybe after my kids are gone and I don’t have to worry about hearing “He touched me!” yet again, I will get a banquette.

Yes Kristen, it’s much easier if there’s 2′ of space separating them. Another positive is the material on your banquette would probably be dirty in a short amount of time. Maybe it will be perfect timing in just a few turns of the sun. Thanks for stopping by.

We had a corner banquette in the upstairs kitchen of the house we were raised in, upholstered in dark red Naugahyde. When our Grandma lived there she would invite me up for tea…a memory like that makes you love them forever… 🙂
Your recent photos are right down my alley! I love simplicity anytime, anywhere and especially combined with the “cottage” look. 🙂
Your blog brings me smiles whenever I get an opportunity to peruse it Elizabeth!!! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us.

Jana, What fond memories of tea with your grandmother!

I love the natural talents your family has; you all are such an inspiration to me! I knew you were a big advocate of simplicity but I didn’t know you liked the cottage style. I love it, too but I just need to figure out how to incorporate it into my house. You know how rustic it is. Maybe you should help me out? 🙂

I feel honored that you took the time to comment. Thank you.

Its really good to know that how we can save much of space in our kitchen despite of including certain other things which we used to avoid such as sitting arrangement!
