A Family Emergency
I’m always hesitant to say at the end of a post, “See you on such-and-such a day” and Monday was no different. Little did I know that on Monday morning, after I had posted, I would receive a phone call from my dad telling me he was in the hospital and that he’d had a light heart attack. Not only was surgery over but it was the day after surgery.
Dad really thought he was going to the hospital for no reason. He had been having chest pains for 1 1/2 weeks and his legs were very weak but he was having no pain in his arms like he heard you will if you’re having an attack. He thought he was just having a muscle spasm in his chest. It had kept him awake Saturday night and he had finally decided that he would drive himself to the hospital and have them check him just to prove to himself it was nothing. However, when he arrived at the hospital they said he was having a heart attack and proceeded to perform the operation of placing 2 stints into his heart.
Mom was back home in Illinois. Dad was in Nevada on business where they also have a 2nd home. Since he was close by I and my 2 girls, my sister and her husband and their daughter all went to stay with him for a few days. Mom flew in and is there with him now which was wonderful for dad.
He really thought his pain was nothing. I am so very glad he went to the hospital before it did any permanent damage and thankful for more time with him. He’s such a great dad. Loving, generous, kind, positive, uplifting, thoughtful are just a few of the adjectives that describe him.
True Nobility by Edgar Guest
Who does his task from day to day
And meets whatever comes his way,
Believing God has willed it so.
Has found real greatness here below.
Who guards his post, no matter where,
Believing god must need him there,
Although but lowly toil it be,
Has risen to nobility.
For great and low there’s but one test:
`Tis that each man shall do his best.
Who works with all the strength he can
Shall never die in debt to man.
