For many people offering hospitality is a daunting prospect. There are many excuses offered such as, “I don’t know how to cook,” My house is too small,” or “My husband and I are not extroverts. What would we talk about?”

Hospitality is a Biblical mandate though and one that we must learn to embrace with joy. In the book A Life That Says Welcome Karen takes a look at what hospitality means and gives examples from the Bible of those who displayed a welcoming heart.

“A Life That Says Welcome helps you make others feel refreshed, rather than impressed, in your presence. It’s packed with inspiring tips on how to: decorate well on a budget, make the most of your space (no matter how small), be prepared for unexpected company, create delicious, simple dishes your guests will enjoy.”

My family and I practice hospitality quite often but I still enjoy reading books on the subject. It’s very easy to get in the “me” mindset. What’s in it for me? Karen encourages us to stop looking at ourself and to look at the big picture. God knows the big picture and why He has chosen to send someone our way so that we can be a blessing. This book will inspire you to take “what is in your hand”, be it a hobby, skill or interest and to bless others with it.

One idea I thought sounded particularly fun was to have a Mystery Dinner. Invite a couple or family over for supper but have them invite someone else to come along with them. It could even be a stranger.

If you’re looking for a book on hospitality that will supply you with ideas as well as inspiration I think you would be pleased with A Life That Says Welcome.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
