  • Going for a New Look

    August 27, 2007 / 1 Comment

After over a year of the same template, I’m ready for a change.  What to do?  Just get another premade template.   I’m just not as smart as some of you about desigining my own, so after several hours working on it, I think I’ll call it quits and go for premade with a few of my own changes thrown in.   I’m practically giddy just having a different avatar.    It doesn’t take much to make this old girl happy.

…and as ill weeds grow apace, the defects of a fine character may well choke out the graces.  A boy is ambitious; he will be leader in the nursery, and his lead is wholesome for the rest; but there is the pugnacious little brother who will not ‘follow my leader’ and the two can hardly live in the same rooms; the able boy is a tyrant when his will is crossed.  … What is the parents’ part here? To magnify the quality; make the child feel that he or she has a virtue to guard––a family possession, and, at the same time, a gift from above. A little simple reasonable…

  • Take Time for Beauty

    April 18, 2007 / 1 Comment

This entry is quite long but I think you’ll find it quite interesting. In January, the Washington Post did an experiment to see if people would take the time to stop to hear a street musician, would they take a moment out of their busy schedules for beauty, would they even notice this talented man or hurry past. For their experiment they had Joshua Bell, a world renowned violinist, play classical music for 45 minutes.  This same young man plays for heads of state, standing room only auditoriums, and gets paid up to $1,000 a minute.  The violin he used was his own, an original Stradavarius bought for 3.2 million. Here are some excerpts from the article. "In…

  • This Terms Memory Work

    March 11, 2007 / 2 Comments

Monday through Thursday my kids have memory work.  I like to do it first thing in the morning after we sing our hymn.  You know how it is – as the day goes on you can get going in so many directions that it can be too easy to skip things we may consider unnecessary. I wrote about the method we use here.  Following, I have listed the poems, Scriptures, etc., that my children have memorized this term. Seth The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson Columbus by Joaquin Miller I John 4:1-21 Story with a Moral James 3:1-18, 4:1-17 Psalm 23:1-6 Old and New Testament A Psalm of Life by…
