• Tackle it Tuesday #142

An old trunk. What treasure? What heirloom could it be holding? Oh, I must find out! Aggghhh! What is this MESS?! A game trunk that needs Organization. It happened one evening my little ones and some other small visitors had a lot of [choke, choke] fun seeing how many games they could pull out. Havoc was wreaked. This has nagged me for weeks but I determined to tackle it this week. I bought a few plastic storage containers. Two big ones that will store 2 or 3 games each (depending on the size) and a smaller shoe box size one to hold card games. My thinking is that if they…

  • Tackle It Tuesday #141

My tackle this week was to get some bulk cooking done for different guests we have coming to visit. Who wouldn’t want to visit Arizona with all the sunshine and nice temperatures we have in the winter? I decided to make lasagna. First, I had to make the sauce. Lots of onions and garlic. Good stuff. I tried a new sauce that called for fresh and canned tomatoes. After the simmering process, I then put it through the blender to puree. Twelve pounds of ricotta was used as well as mozzarella and Parmesan. Whoa! That’s a lot of cheese! The finished products. Enough lasagna to feed at least 45 people.…

  • B is for Bush

Scrub OakCyphomardra Betacea Scrub Oak, as it is commonly called, is a very resilient and tough bush. It is to be found all over our valley. It produces acorns which are not quite the same size as a large oak tree would produce. They have acorns that are bitter and have a certain amount of toxicity. So be safe when you eat acorns. Remember, “Safety first.” Picture & Entry written by Zachary (16 year old) *For the A B See Photo Meme, I’m approaching it this way: my children will use this for their nature study. • A is for Alligator Bark Juniper

For the A B See Photo Meme, I’m approaching it this way: my children will use this for their nature study. Each one has their own letter from the alphabet (starting at A) and they are to find something in nature that corresponds with that letter. They take a photo of it and place it in their Nature Study journal, as well as writing a few facts about it. This week’s photo was taken by Wesley, my 13 year old son. Alligator Bark Juniper Juniperus Deppeana Steud The alligator bark juniper, called so because its bark resembles alligator skin. It is only found in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and…

  • A B See Photo Meme

This might get interesting. I can do this every Friday or not – depending on if I get it done. Sounds good to me. Here are the rules… be sure to post them when you join! 1. Post a photo for each letter of the alphabet of anything that starts with that letter. 2. Write a few short explanatory, quirky, or witty sentences about each photo you post. 3. Only post one photo at a time (the meme can take as long as you want – a month, three months, whatever… you aren’t being graded). You can link them later in a blog post so they are listed in order…
