Saving Money on Groceries
I have been reading a lot about saving money on groceries. Thanks to those who shared with me what they do to save money. You actually are the ones that made me even think about looking on the Internet for more ideas. Here are some things I have learned: #1 Cutting back on groceries is probably the biggest area you can actually make a difference without having a major lifestyle change. #2 A price book is a very handy tool to use in your shopping. #3There is a lot of talk about couponing. I’m not really convinced yet that buying the Sunday paper and printing coupons off the Interent would be very beneficial…

Grocery Budget
I havent personally taken the time to count every reference in the Bible made about money. The late Larry Burkett must have because he said there were more references made about money than any other single subject in the Bible. My husband handles our finances and does a very capable job of it. He does not see the need for us to be on a budget. He says if we dont need it we wont buy it and if we do need it well buy it. Of course, this is a very convenient philosophy for me to live by. J But My mother was always a saver. When my dad…

A Bad Day in the Kitchen
Last week our local tourist farm had an auction selling baked goods. Since our 4-H Club was helping serve the BBQ dinner with the all-you-can-eat corn, we were allowed to bring some type of baked goods that could be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to our club. I was reminded of this fact the day before the auction. So, I thumbed through some cookbooks and found a recipe that I thought I would try. Creamy Pralines. Does that sound delicious or what? About noon I thought I had better get crackin on making my dessert. Just in case something went wrong, of course. I mean I know theres really no cause…

Africa Day Preparations
The pace is starting to pick up around here. We are planning a big dinner next Saturday (26th) for about 200 people. We love to entertain and having 75-100 people has been a not-too-rare occasion for us. This time its going to be more of a challenge trying to take care of 200 people. I'm going to have some great help in the kitchen though, so it will relieve me of a lot of responsibility. When we were in South Africa in March we met a man who owns a rehabilitation center for wildlife. He takes injured animals from Krueger Park, doctors them up and reintroduces them to the wild. He is…

Beat the Heat with this Tasty Treat
Here in Arizona we are sweltering. . At our house we have evaporative cooling which really is just a big fan blowing through pads that are soaked with water. It does NOT work in humidity. We are enjoying the rain that is coming our way though. Here is just the thing for the heat. This is so easy to make and very refreshing as a snack or even an appetizer. Its like a fruit slush. Very Good! Chilled Fruit Cups 1 can (12 oz.) frozen pineapple juice concentrate, thawed 1 can mandarin oranges, drained 1 can (6 oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed 1 can (8 oz.) crushed pineapple 1…
