A Farm Themed Potluck
Nine years since our church moved into our new church building. It’s hard for us to believe. Having a dedicated church building is a wonderful privilege and blessing. Through my childhood years and even after we were married, I’ve had church many times in the living rooms of fellow Believers but there’s nothing like having a place set aside to worship the Lord each week and I am very thankful for ours.
To show a little friendship with visitors who come during this weekend, we like to have a church potluck on the Saturday of our meetings and most always we have the potluck in our backyard.
Now I would be the first to say potlucks are not my favorite. To me there’s just too much variety. A hodge podge of dishes and flavors – Mexican competing with BBQ, jello and who knows what else. It’s just not my cup of tea favorite thing.
So each year I pick a theme like Italian, Tropical, Mexican, etc. This year’s theme was Barnyard Fun. The dishes brought were to be something you might find on a farm. And I’m always amazed by the creativity of the ladies at church. They are so good about jumping on board with my ideas and bring a nice assortment of food.
One of the CK girls did a little hand lettering for me.
My niece, Hadassah that you read about in A Pile of Mismatched Socks and Something Else was introduced to a new recipe – Rice Krispie Treats. Junk food is not real welcome in their home. 🙂 I’ll show you what we did with them farther down.
Our cornhole sets made by the Castle Defenders has been a fun game to add to our backyard activities.
Grace, my very calm and unflappable niece, helped me with all the Farm decorations.
Another CK girl did the lettering for this sign which is a little hard to read with the dappled sunlight filtering through.
On the left – “Life is Better on the Farm” and on the right – “Old McDonald had a Farm” with some menu items listed beneath.
Dig In!
Fun wording for the forks and knives – Pitchforks and Scythes… (Pinterest inspiration) 🙂
Our guest minister and his wife from Zimbabwe.
Shalom with her very first, first cousin.
“Shovels” to help eat dessert.
And there’s our Rice Krispie treats… served as Hay Bales.
For my Saskatchewan, Canadian readers: that is a New Holland tractor. I enjoyed using this gift that was given to my boys many years ago for a prop at our farm themed dinner.
I hope your enjoyed your visit to the farm.
Be sure to come again!

Everything looks so fun and creative as always. I sure do miss being there with you all. I would love to see those corn hole boards up close! I’ve been wanting to get my own set and I already have an idea what I will be painting on them 😉

One of ours is the American & Canadian flags minus some key components. The American flag needs some stars and the Canadian flag is still missing its maple leaf. lol The cornhole boards may be falling apart before that ever happens. haha

I’ve never been a fan of potlucks either, for the same reasons as you. However, I had never thought of setting a theme and then everyone bringing dishes accordingly! That is a very good idea, everything “goes” together so much better that way! Always enjoy reading your blog.

I was so surprised when we had our Italian theme the variety of food the ladies brought. It was not all pasta.
