And the After… After Youth Camp – Part II
After the youth camp ended, we traveled to Ohio. We were invited to a homeschooler’s high school graduation party (the best!) for some friends of ours that used to live in Arizona and we were delighted that we could attend.
I received a knock on my hotel door the next day with a voice saying in an accent, “Room Service.” I opened the door and this is what I found. I could not help but laugh.
Of course, we had to take the kids to this amazing nursery and tell them all about how God gave this family their business.
They just happen to have this nice pond….
The graduation party was really nice.
This sweet lady has been a good momma and teacher to her kids
Congratulations, cowboy. 🙂
Sunday, our crew was invited to lunch. What a beautiful location it was. The house was sit right in the trees providing plenty of shade. It was a beautiful afternoon.
Audrey with Audrey.
And then it was time to head out. Driving all night once again…
About 2 am we were driving through St. Louis and we decided to stop and let the kids see the arch up close. Of course the whole place was closed and the grounds as well but the security guards let us on to the grounds anyways – maybe because we were from far away. I’m not sure. But it was really enjoyable having the whole place to ourselves and getting to walk the grounds and being able to go right up to the arch in the moonlight.
We look pretty good for 2 am!
Then we continued on… and on… and on…
11+ hours later, we decided to stop in Amarillo, Texas at a steakhouse we’ve never been to but pass every year – The Big Texan.
It was a fun stop.
Kids meals were served in the cowboy hat, which the kids got to take home with them.
My nephew was the big impetus for stopping here.
He wanted to take the challenge.
The challenge was to eat a 72oz steak, along with all the trimmings (salad, potato, salad and 3 shrimp) in 1 hour or less.
He started off gloriously and could have finished but he was so sick of steak, he figured that if he took one more bite he would be sick. So he didn’t complete the challenge even though we cheered and hurrahed him on.
Excellent food here. I recommend The Big Texan.
And that pretty much is the end of our trip. After a good night’s rest in Amarillo, we drove the rest of the way back to Arizona.
It was a good trip and my greatest desire is that something was said at camp or along the way to encourage the kids in their Christian walk and that good seed was planted in their heart that will continue to grow, producing Christ in their life.
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.  Isaiah 55:11
But I can’t forget what these girls did after we got home. They and their parents gave us the sweetest card, flowers and chocolates thanking us for taking them. So kind and thoughtful. You’re sure welcome, girls. We are so happy to take you.
