Trips We've Made

A Group Hike to Vultee Arch

Wait! Don’t leave. You are not at the wrong place. This is still Treasuring the Moments but I have a new look. Yay! I’ve been wanting to change some things around for awhile and finally got to it and after a fair bit of time and some frustrating moments, it’s up and running! If you see some more tweaks to my home page, it’s just me working behind the scenes trying to fix a few things.

Spring has sprung and with it hayfever. It’s been pretty awful. I’m just glad I had a lot of tissues already purchased and on-hand because we’re going through them!

We took a little hike in the beautiful town of Sedona, Arizona yesterday. Although they prefer you to park your vehicle and walk in, we drove our Suburban over what only a Jeep should be driving on. But since I’m married to a outdoorsman, off-roader, we took our personal vehicle and after 6 miles of jolting and jostling across hollows, dips, wash-outs and rocks, we finally made it to the trail head.

Almost any place you visit in Sedona is bound to be beautiful.

Look at this huge yucca plant. The Indians would use the fibers that can be found inside the leaves to make sandals ropes and baskets. If they chewed the ends of the fibers, it even made a nice paintbrush for them.

Wild dandelion leaves that tasted pretty good!

Wilderness – where we never saw another soul. (That’s because everyone else was at Devil’s Bridge, a very popular spot just up the road.)

More yucca plants.

On the very tip of each leaf is a very sharp point. The Indians used this for a needle.

Such majestic beauty!

3.2 miles round-trip to Vultee Arch. A nice hike that wasn’t strenuous at all, along a creek that actually had water (we get excited about water here in AZ!)  and trees along the trail. The worst part? The bumpy road we had to drive to get there. We were quite worn out by the time we got back that evening to the lodgings where our friends were staying.

The views from Vultee Arch are not as spectacular as the views from Devil’s Bridge but if you’re looking to do a different hike, I think it’s an enjoyable one.  And if you go in the Spring…. may I suggest you bring that tissue box along? 🙂
