I’m Not Frozen Yet
It was a foggy day that we arrived in Canada.
The town is very small where are at and the nearest big city is Winnipeg – 3 hours away. I always marvel at how people landed in such desolate places. What drew them to this particular area? Why did they stay? The ones that we know here are all from Iceland originally so I guess Canada wasn’t any colder than where they came from! (I actually just looked at the weather for Reykjavik, Iceland (30°F) and Winnipeg, Manitoba (21°F). Canada is colder? Who would have thought?)
Fishing was also an important part of life for the first immigrants.
Here are some huts on the frozen lake that are used for ice fishing.
Getting ready to walk out on the lake. The lake is so vast that you feel rather lost.
But as we found out a few years ago on our visit to Canada in the winter, they know how to have a good time, no matter the weather.
See the winter boots my sister-in-law is wearing? They are the lightest weight boot you can imagine but the insulating factor is absolutely incredible. If they can keep my toes warm (and they do!) they are one amazing boot!
Look at this huge bald eagle’s nest!
Another nest which had 2 bald eagles but they flew away when we stopped to look at them.
