Walking Through Chinatown & Little Italy in New York City
Day 2 in New York
Our hosts prepared a special breakfast for us the next morning and so we joined them in their apartment where we not only had a tasty breakfast but were treated to a few songs on the violin and harp. It was beautiful.
The day was chilly and rainy but armed with several umbrellas we took to the streets and headed for the subway.
There were 13 of us non-locals so it was nice that our friends came along to help us figure everything out. I feel sorry for them when I think of them trying to make sure everyone was on the right train and that we didn’t get separated.
My little niece being a goof. She brought shoelaces, which she had tied together, for a leash. Oh, Miss B you are so funny.
Our first stop was Chinatown and Little Italy.
Chinatown is the place to pick up inexpensive souvenirs
The Chinese markets were the most interesting things to see.
I was privileged to go to China 26 years ago and these markets were authentic to what we saw there.
This market was amazing. On the outside they had aquariums showing the various sea creatures you could purchase such as crab, fish, frogs and eels.
On the inside…
As you can see, there were a vast variety of fishes to choose from, as well as snails, frogs (alive – big fat ones!), shrimp, roasted geese and ducks and I’m sure I’m missing some. There were all kinds of meat choices!
Welcome to Little Italy
I thought these big wooden spoons quite interesting.
Notice the large rounds of bread in the window of this bakery.
Little Italy even has fire hydrants painted in the Italian flag’s colors. 🙂
My sister and me.

I had to try some cannoli’s from a street vendor. I wasn’t too impressed unfortunately. The cannoli shell seemed to taste of grease and was quite thick but I’m not a real connoisseur of cannoli’s so maybe they’re supposed to be that way. Either way, I wouldn’t go back to Cannoli World.
Then I saw this teeny little storefront where they sold mini macaroons and mini muffins.
The muffins weren’t that amazing but the macaroons were delicious.
Everything was bite-sized.
I thought it most fun to try these places. I did attempt to find a place that sold spumoni but was unsuccessful. What can I say? I like kitchen items and food. It’s a weakness love of mine.
I can’t finish Day 2 in this one post. There are just too many pictures to share. NYC is a huge contrast to where we live in the country and it was all so interesting.
Part II of Day 2 coming… Skyscrapers, old churches, Grand Central Station, NYC Public Library and more!

Well, if it’s a weakness…(kitchen products and gastronomical delights) then I have the same!
The artisan loaves of bread are beautiful! I love to see and experience the mastery of someone’s particular craft! Would’ve loved to have tried a good spumoni myself!
Keep the pictures coming! So nice you could be with your sister!

Yes, I think your family has something to do with my delight of food. 🙂
