Visiting the Big Apple
Well here we are. This country family has come to the big city… New York City to be exact. What a difference for us and most definitely different for my two boys who just came out of the Canadian bush after being there for 5 weeks.
Arriving in New York we were shocked at the cost of crossing ONE bridge $15. We had just paid a toll in New Jersey for their bridge and not even 5 minutes down the road here we were paying $15 just for crossing into New York.
The Verazzano Bridge that opened in 1964. It is a suspension bridge that links Brooklyn and Staten Island together. The towers are 693′ tall.
Our first evening we went to the New York Philharmonic Symphony where Leonidas Kavakos (from the country of Greece) was featured on the violin.
We had friends from Arizona that were there on a business trip and they also joined us, along with our hosts from NYC.
It was somewhere in the middle of the evening when I had this sudden urge to sneeze and I did… but unfortunately it was at the quietest moment in the song. Uh oh!
Maybe this sign gives explanation to why, when a song ended, that the place erupted in coughs. Too bad I didn’t see this sign until after the performance had ended.
Standing in the square where the Symphonies are held. There are two other buildings in the square…
One is this building where the operas are held. The other building which I don’t have a picture of is where the ballets are held.
The famous Julliard School is across the street.
The traffic was quite harried as we left the symphony hall and went to Junior’s Cheesecake. I don’t think we were in Times Square while at Junior’s but we did have to go through a part of the Square and I think that is one area you would want to avoid if at all possible. Hoards of people and not the best atmosphere would be my guess.

Wow. I think I would’ve been super nervous to be at that orchestra- where you couldn’t even cough!! Neat trip tho!

Well I think that you find out as you go through life that people are people. It doesn’t matter how rich they are… We’re all born the same, put on our clothes the same, etc. So, no need to feel intimidated. 🙂 And we all sometimes just have to sneeze. haha
