Off Roading & Other Good Times
Jeeping (is that a word? 🙂 ) is something my husband has done since way before I ever married him. Scaring people is not his intention at all but many times they are… just because they haven’t done too much off-roading…. but young people love doing this kind of thing. So the day after we arrived home from Havasupai, they all hit the road while my sister and I stayed home to prepare their supper and shop for some much needed supplies.
(excuse all the hand signs – it became sort of a craze for some reason this week)
The town of Cleator is a ghost town and was originally established in 1864. All that is there now, besides a few residences, are a bar and a general/junk store. On a previous trip down this road, we had need of visiting one of the residents to see if he had some gas he would sell us. That was quite a trip and you can read about it here. But on this day, the general store was closed – but who should be there but Schwan’s…
from whom they purchased a box of ice cream. Perfect timing!
(all these people really fit in one vehicle? amazing!)
On top of the world…
From the top of the mountain they went into the mountain to explore an old mine.
There’s a certain part of the mine that has really good acoustics for singing, so all the lights go out and the singing begins.
They arrived home safely that night with no break-downs but they did have this one little incident that even though it wasn’t a problem it caused a little excitement amongst the passengers anyways. 🙂

Not breaking down is truly something to be thankful for because that old Blazer is in rough shape and has repairs done to it quite often.
There were plenty of games played, walleyball and…
…music. I had to laugh when I heard the trumpet being played.
There was a piano and violin being played in the house so my nephew took his instrument to the outdoors.
But slowly, one after another, each of our guests had to say goodbye and fly back to their home state, until only a few were left and we went on our last and final outing to see some Indian petroglyphs my oldest son son found while out scouting for deer a few years ago.
Â
They have mostly fallen down but there are still some stone walls along the top of the hill.
And thus ended our wonderful week with family and friends.
It was truly a memorable time and I loved every minute of it.
Plans are already being made for a return trip to Havasupai and in just a few months I’ll be making reservations once again.
I think that tells you how much I enjoyed it!

The Wallace Traditions ever continue….scares and all! It’s amazing how you all can keep that Blazer running!
