How Our Father’s Day Celebration Came Together

So I kept getting these calls leading up to Father’s Day, asking me what I was going to do for Father’s Day.

“Uh, Father’s Day? I haven’t even thought about it.”

One was making a smoked brisket for her husband and another was having dinner guests both of which things my husband would absolutely love.

But I had nothing… zilch… zero… planned.

Poor man.

But my alibi, flimsy as it may be, is I have so much going on right now that I don’t know if I’m coming or going right now, whether my head is on straight or not, or whether this is 2015 or 2016. Seriously, I wrote a check the other day with the year 2016 on it.

Wracking my brain with what we could do special for my children’s daddy, (because we’re leaving in a few days for a trip and Sunday was our last day to gather some much needed items and I knew that we couldn’t have lunch at home….(try reading all that in one breath haha) ) I finally thought, why can’t we make a special breakfast? Why does it have to be lunch?

And the kids could write a bunch of little notes and we could place them in random places (like his shoes and on his computer screen) so he would find them at different times.

Oh, you can see the ole’ brain was beginning to work now. My brain circuits were furiously firing trying to make all the connections of how this could actually happen since we were getting home late Saturday night.

Sunday morning dawned and I had to go rouse my children from their sound sleep so they could get going on dad’s special breakfast.

(A treasured picture for it may not be too many years from now that she won’t be home to do this.)

Audrey decided to write a note that couldn’t be missed and came out with a “Happy Father’s Day” sign taped to her chest.

And it came together and I’m so happy that I can tell you that my hubby had his own special Father’s Day celebration after all!

From one of my two sons that could not be with him on this day, he received this message.

“Happy Father’s Day! I truly have a goodly heritage from the Lord, for I was raised in the home of a standard bearer, a home where the token was applied, a home that was faithful to God and His Word. I love you as my father and my friend.”

Those words say it all. This is what their daddy means to them.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
