Question for You About an Age Old Wedding Tradition

Okay ladies, single and married, I would like to hear what you have to say.  Zachary is getting married May 18 so all things wedding are on my mind and an idea came to me for the “something old” item but maybe I don’t even want to go there?  Maybe it’s a tradition we should lay aside?

What is your opinion of the old tradition of the bride carrying something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?

This tradition dates back several centuries.  Here are some of the meanings behind each one.

Something old – signifying that she is leaving her old life behind and is starting a new life while reminding her at the same time that family always continues

Something new – This signifies what she will be gaining through marriage and her hope for the future.

Something Borrowed – This item comes from a happily married woman who is letting the bride “borrow” some of her happiness.

Something Blue – symbolizing fidelity and loyalty

Personally, I’m kind of a fan of tradition and I like this but what do you all think?  Does it seem like it’s too much talk of “luck” and therefore not something we really want to be a part of or is it just a fun tradition?

I’m really curious what you all think, so I hope you’ll tell me your opinion.

Yay or Nay?

I don’t think it has anything to do with luck. It’s just a cute tradition. We have lots of things in our lives that symbolize something and we don’t use them for luck… just as a reminder or good memory. ;o)

I think it’s a great tradition, especially if the bride realizes what each item symbolizes. God instituted many “traditions” with the Israelites that taught the children as no other lesson could have.

I agree with all the above comments!

Fun fact:The “tradition” of wearing your ring on the *left hand third finger* is because a vein in that finger (supposedly)runs to the heart. (I just thought that was neat!)

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
