31 Days of Kitchen Inspiration Day 20: Giving a Meal

Do you remember when you had your children the meals that were brought to you afterwards and what a blessing it was?  I’ve had 6 children and although I was only brought a few meals throughout the years of having children, they were so wonderful to receive.

I was inspired to start organizing meals for new moms after visiting my sisters church in Pennsylvania.  They plan meals for the new moms for 2 weeks after she has had her baby.  Wow!  What an act of love to show to new moms.  I’m not sure if they do it for moms that having their 2nd and 3rd but I think it’s almost even more necessary the more children one has.

We have a new teensy tiny baby that was born a few weeks ago.

I called Eliana’s mom up and asked her if she wanted a chicken dish or soup.  Because she wanted chicken and soup both (but finally settled on the soup), I decided to make her a soup with chicken.  Clever, huh? 🙂

A small green salad was made and for dessert Applesauce Spice Bars.  Mmmm.

I loved making all the labels.  So fun.  But after you make cute labels you then will need to have a cute way of presenting your meal to the family.  So I tried to get my creative juices going and come up with something.   A basket was my solution.  Strong enough to support the jars and cute, too.

I took this picture without the dessert but decided to just place the applesauce spice bars on top of the salad when I gave it to them.

I really liked putting this together.

I hope they enjoy the Chicken Corn Chowder as much as I did when I ate what couldn’t fit into the jars. 🙂

Are you still with me as we talk about 31 Days of Kitchen Inspiration?  I’m loving it and I hope you are, too.

When Becca was born, some of my friends from MN drove four hours to spring clean our home and provide us with a months worht of meals. Words cannot express how very much I appreciated this huge act of love. I was thoroughly embarrassed that they saw my house at it’s worst (I was not supposed to do anything for the last four months of my pregnancy. (I did as much as I could get away with, and then had a C-section and was unable to do much before they arrived. Needless to say, I try to make a meal and/or clean house for all the new moms in this area, especially the ones with other children!

I’ve enjoyed reading your inspirations everyday this month. I love the idea of giving soup in jars like that….it’s an easy way to
transport it plus it looks great!

I love the soup in mason jar idea! We do meals for new moms at our church too and also take turns making a meal for a widower
several times a week ( we each only have to make a meal for him once every three months since there are so many of us doing it).
I really appreciate new ideas for these meals, the labels are really cute and creative too.

      Kelly,

Thanks for the kind words. What a blessing the ladies of your church are to so many and to the widower who is probably a very lonely man. That’s a fantastic idea.

Thanks so much for linking up!! I really enjoyed reading this post and seeing how creative your were in presenting your meal! Our church does this too for families that have just had a baby. I’m sure it is so appreciated!

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
