Week in Review 9/12/10 – Reunion!
My two oldest boys arrived home Tuesday. Finally! Seth was gone to Ohio for 2 months and Zachary to Manitoba, Canada for 6 weeks. They both flew home on the same day with connecting flights in Minneapolis. Neither one knew the other had a layover in Minneapolis since we had purchased their tickets here at home. Russell arranged for them to be on the same flight together and to even have seats right next to each other.
How could it go wrong you may wonder…
Well Seth, our firstborn, acts like a typical firstborn! We had already imagined that he would be one of the first on board and we also imagined that Zachary might be running down the terminal at the last minute to catch his plane.
What actually happened was…
Zachary had a 2 hour layover but the gate where he was supposed to leave from was very crowded so he moved over to the adjacent gate and did not hear the call to board when it came. Unaware of the time, he sat there while Seth boarded, along with the other passengers. The plane was still on the ground when he realized he needed to get on board but unfortunately, they had closed the door and would not let him board. The plane left 5 minutes later.
Seth had an empty seat next to him for the ride home… that was supposed to be occupied by Zachary.
Finally, we were all united together and enjoyed our favorite food – Mexican. Can’t get enough of chips and salsa…
What a happy reunion.
We did a lot of catching up on the happenings with the boys.
The next day we took off on a camping trip. Russell wanted to do something special now that we were all together again. Plans were made for Zion National Park but the day before we were to leave we heard the weather was quite hot. We never did decide exactly where we were going till we were already on the road. This is so Russell. Approach life freely and in an impromptu fashion. I’m the opposite. I like knowing exactly what is going on. I like my lists and schedules.
But I digress. I’m supposed to be talking about our week! Maybe some other time we can talk about personality types, a subject I’m finding quite fascinating these days! 🙂
Off we went on our camping trip.
First we stopped at Blue Ridge Reservoir. Absolutely stunning.
However, there were controlled burns in the area causing things to be a bit smokey and the banks of the Reservoir were too steep to comfortably fish from. So, we continued on.
Our next place was Knoll Lake which we had never heard of until we had left Blue Ridge Resevoir and consulted our little camping book. We visited a ranger station and they also recommended Knoll Lake, so off we went on 27 miles of dirt road to reach this out-of-the-way lake.
Beautiful, isn’t it? Did you know we had such lovely spots here in Arizona? 🙂
Canoeing, fishing, reading and game playing was the order for the next few days.
The boys went out in the wee hours of the morning to scout for elk. They’re in the rut now so they are bugling. Wesley was all decked out in his camo. Do you see him?
Sneaky, huh?
On the way home we drove 30 miles of dirt road along the beautiful and well-known Mogollon Rim. (Well known because of Zane Grey perhaps?)
And we were one happy family for a few days until Seth left with a friend for South Carolina to deliver a car. This time he’s only gone for 10 days so I think I might manage. 🙂
Have a lovely week, dear friends.

It looks like you all had a great time. The last picture would be Jonathan favorite spot. Right next to the boys!
