I’ve been mulling over what to do special for Valentine’s Day, which will be on Friday for us, and I think I’ve finally figured out what we’re doing.
I usually only do something special in the morning time at breakfast. We’ll still do that. I have some gifts I bought at one of the big wholesale warehouses after Christmas. They were on clearance and I snatched them up. For hubby he gets chocolate covered nuts. For the children, mugs filled with a variety of candy (we do NOT need any more candy – this has really got to stop!), wrapped in cellophane and tied with a bow. They were so cute and cheap that I couldn’t resist.
The little ones have made valentine’s bags and the rest of us will write notes to them and place them inside.
But I’m going to try something new for us too at supper time. I have always thought those parties where you go from house to house for the different courses sounded fun. So I thought I would incorporate that idea into our Valentine’s Day supper just for fun.
First, let me tell you the menu. Simple. Simple is the key word for me these days so I knew I didn’t want a lot of fussing. I came up with…
Green Salad
Pita Pizzas on the Grill
Mini-Cheesecakes
align="left">We won’t be driving to different locations for our few courses. We’ll do it right here at home. The plan is to start in the Master Bedroom. We’ll have a blanket spread on the floor where we eat our salad. I want to play a quick game – perhaps Round 1 & 2 of Phase 10 and then it will be time for the next course.
Back to the kitchen we will go for everyone to prepare their pita pizza’s with their favorite toppings. This course will be eaten at our regular dining room table. While the pizzas are on the grill we’ll play another game – maybe Dutch Blitz – a fun but fast Amish card game or it could be Brain Quest or Candyland for Audrey (3yo). I’m not sure exactly what; all of this still needs to be determined.
After we’ve scarfed down as many pizzas as our tummies can hold – the final course will be held in one of the children’s bedrooms. (One thing I know, they’ll have to get it cleaned up!) As we enjoy our mini-cheesecakes (I hope we enjoy them; I’ve never made them before.) we will each say 3 things about the person next in age to us. In other words, my oldest son will say 3 uplifting things about the next oldest brother and son #2 will say 3 uplifting things about brother #3 and so on.
Will things go as smoothly as I make it sound? Probably not! When you have 6 kids, 4 of them boys, things can tend to get rowdy. From wrestling to tickling to spilling drinks – you name it – anything might happen. But I will be calm and smile lovingly at the clan. I WILL BE CALM AND SMILE LOVINGLY AT THE CLAN!!! Hee, Hee.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!
