Learnin' to Love All Veggies
Admittedly, swiss chard is a rather bitter vegetable. I have only served it a handful of times at my house because I know that everyone’s reaction will be less than enthusiastic. But I want my dear ones to learn to like everything. Things would get a bit monotonous if I made the same things over and over. We need all our veggies, not just the starchy ones. 🙂 Sometimes, you have to cultivate a taste for things, like swiss chard.
Mmmm, doesn’t it look good?
Okay, okay, your brain may not be sending that message to you. But not only do I think it looks good, I thought it tasted good, really good. Of course, I do have a cold and my taste buds might be a little off, but really, it was good. (Okay, Elisabeth, you’re not pleading a case in court. It’s just a vegetable!)
My sister gave me a new cookbook for Christmas called Food to Live By by Myra Goodman, who along with her husband, formed Earthbound Farm Organics. I’ve been doing a lot of cooking from it and have found all of the recipes I’ve made to be quite good.
Justus (4yo) didn’t care if the swiss chard was healthy for him or not. Eating it was going to be hard to do – no way around it!
"Oh, mom you’re not really going to make me eat it are you?"
"Sorry, son, you’re really going to have to do it."
Yea, for Justus! He managed to eat 2 bites without a single shiver!
If your interest is peaked in this vegetable and you just have to learn more about it, so that you can serve it to your kids, go here to read how much vitamins K, A, and C is in 1 cup.

I actually like the look and flavor. Call me strange. My kids love almost all veggies. Their favorite? Brussel Sprouts! 🙂 Seriously!
