Sisters & Bathroom Make-Overs

Here it is, the promised pictures of our recent bathroom make-over.  My sister from Pennsylvania is arriving Sunday night and so I debated about whether to post the pictures or not.  I thought she might enjoy the anticipation and surprise of seeing it all when she arrived.  But no, she wanted to see them now.  And when you have a sister that knows how to say "Aiiii Yiii!" in such a ferocious tone that you shrivel up on the inside from fear, you learn not to mess with her.

I was traumatized as a kid at night when she would karate chop the bed down the center and woe unto me if I crossed the imaginary line.  I’ve been a long time recovering from it all, but I’m think I’m there folks.  I think I’m there.

Okay, sis.  Here’s those pictures.

Since all of my boys love to hunt I felt that was a good theme to go with.

   View from the doorway.

I hung alternating colors of brown and tan on the hooks according to birth order.  I wrote each child’s name on the label of their towel so I could keep track of who wasn’t taking care of their towel.  It’s not really a problem with the older ones but I did it just in case.

This is above the bathroom door. The fur to the right is a squirrel that one of my sons skinned and tanned.

Here we have a mountain lion that Seth made from leaves we collected once while in Pennsylvania.  The binoculars were my dads; the fur they’re resting on is a rabbit another one of my sons skinned and tanned, the horns are from a coues (pronounced coos) deer that my son found lying on the ground and the plaque is from a tree that my sons cut down and made into lumber.  I used a wood burning kit to write a couple lines of poetry onto it.

With a new coat of paint and different decor we have finished our bathroom make-over and are really liking the new look.

Now are you satisfied, sis?

I think I’ve been spared one of her merciless chops.  She’s given me the thumbs-up!  (a big groan of relief)

My brother would really love that bathroom – their whole house is done in a "lodge/forest" type theme.

I like how you did the towels.

    Hi Elisabeth!

I LOVE your bathroom!!! I love woodsy themes. 🙂 What a great idea to write your children's names on the towels so you can keep track of who to get after if it's not where it should be. 😉 I could use some sort of system like that on toys…

The squirrel and leaf art really add to the decor & make it "theirs". Great job! And cute pictures of your sister! She sounds like a character! 🙂

Thanks for the congrats & your sweet comments!

    Love, Alyssa

Wow! I really, really like your theme and the decorations you used. My children are all clambering for a similar theme in their bathroom! Thanks for sharing your great idea!
