Am I a Packrat? You Be the Judge
Today, with free time on my hands – Seth (16) having gone scouting for antelope again, Zachary (15) and Wesley (12) out on their horses for a mountain man outing and Serenity (9) working on her blog, Beautiful Girlhood (which you really should check out if you haven’t yet), I decided to rearrange some cabinets.
I wanted to move all my spices, mixing bowls and the like to a cupboard that is 9" bigger. First I started emptying one cupboard, wiping down shelves and then emptying out the other cupboard, putting the contents of the second cupboard into the first one. It looked so nice – when it was only half full. But what to do when both cupboards become full and half of the contents there’s still a few things that need to be put away?
You may wonder why I had extra items. It’s because I wanted the things I use for baking to be conveniently within reach instead of in my pantry. This caused a surplus. Okay, so now what? Hmmm. What about my other pantry downstairs that my hubby so kindly put in for me? Downstairs I go. After walking carelessly inside tripping over boxes in the way I was able to see that this pantry needed my attention.
That became a 2-hour job. It’s amazing the things you’ll find when you dig deep enough. How about this.
Ginger Ale – expiration date 2002
enough Ziploc bags to last me for the next 5 years
enough Carnation Milk to make 20 pumpkin pies
plastic ware that my dear mother gave me that had been
sitting around her house for who knows how long (Ever heard
of the brand name Lady Dianne? Even an Internet search
on this name brought up nothing)
Top Crest plastic ware that’s yellow. I’m not sure if that’s
the original color or it if used to be white 30 years ago
when my mother purchased them.
You are going to think I’m a serious pack rat after reading this post and after this post about hand-me-downs but I’m really not. Seriously. Well. okay. Maybe just a little.
But I finished the pantry, made a Chocolate Zucchini Cake and… Well yes, as a matter of fact, I am trying to redeem myself.

Mom, you are not a packrat at all, you may think so but you really are not. 🙂 Thanks for posting a comment on my blog.
I love you so much.
