TIIIMMBEERR!!
For the last several days Russell and the boys were lumberjacks. The Forestry Service gave them permission to cut down certain trees that had dead tops. I can just imagine their big evil grin excitement as they fired the chain saws up. They cut down 20 Ponderosa pines that were about 70-100′ tall, yelling "TIMBER" as the trees fell. Wesley got to chop the limbs off with his axe.
They then cut the trees up into 12′ sections, loaded them onto a trailer and hauled them over to a saw mill to make lumber.
They worked LONG days (one 15 hour day). They were "the crew" from cutting down the trees, to hauling them, to making the lumber. They were so exhausted each evening when they got home that they just wanted to clean up (ha, do boys ever care about being clean?) get to bed.
I was reminded of the book Homeschooling for Excellence by the Colfaxes; when they were building their house the kids worked so hard that when they did quit work for the day it was like relaxation to do their schoolwork.
It was quite an experience for the boys, with a few dangerous moments thrown in, to add to their list of adventures. Lumber-jacking 101.

We are using it for siding, a shelter for our horses and as siding for our racquetball court my husband is building. This wood is not 2×4's. They're planks and so when you use them for siding it gives a very old west, rustic appearance. Very nice looking, if I do say so myself! 🙂
