Adios to Part of the Farm
´The past 4 days was full of frenetic activity. Our 4 oldest children sold their 4-H animals. We had a steer, lamb and 2 pigs. Zachary and Serenity also showed their dogs.
It’s great fun after having an animal for the last 3-6 months to take it to EXPO and sell. The 4-H volunteers do so much – they really put their all into it for the kids. It’s very well run and little extras to make things even better are always being added.
At their community meeting they are each required to give a speech. Here is Wesley and Serenity giving theirs together. This is Serenity’s first year and she is quite shy, so working with her brother was really helpful to her.
My kids also go to various business owners before the sale and invite them to the auction. This has been excellent for my kids to be able to present themselves in a professional way. (shaking hands, meeting with prominent businessmen, speaking properly, etc.) From knowing nobody they have now been able to get very loyal bidders on their animals.
Surprisingly, Zachary and Serenity did very well in showmanship and obedience with their dogs. They took first and second place in both of those categories and Zachary took Reserve Champion for Beginners in the agility course.
They all sold their animals on Saturday so I guess that means it’s back to school this week!
