A Harrowing Day
Yesterday (Sunday) was our 18th wedding anniversary. It doesn’t seem that long since we walked down the aisle together but here we are 18 years later with 6 wonderful children. The Lord certainly blessed my life when he gave me Russell. He has helped me in countless ways to grow as a person, has been a true Christian and an outstanding father.
That afternoon we were faced with the realization of how quickly things can change. Russell was taking a nap and the rest of us were doing various things. Seth was in the Living Room reading a book and I was in the Library. I heard Seth’s feet repeatedly hitting the floor and I thought he was just goofing around. I then heard him saying something and I thought he was talking to Russell. After realizing that Russell was not talking with him I just got the feeling that maybe I should go check on him in case something was wrong. I walked in the L.R. and there he sat in the chair slumped over the arm, looking like he was gagging (trying to vomit) and moaning unintelligibly. One eye looked like just the white was showing. I yelled for help a few times before someone came and went to the kitchen to get water and a trash can thinking he was throwing up. (He wasn’t kicking the floor anymore.)
My son Zachary sat him up and yelled again for Russell, who came. Seth was not breathing, not responding, eyes were wide open and just staring. Russ thought he was choking so he tried to do the Heimlich maneuver on him. I called a friend who is an EMT. He told me Seth was having a seizure and gave instructions on what to do. Seth started breathing again during this time, but it took him another minute before he could say anything and when he did it was a bit garbled. (Just thinking about how long things went I would say the seizure lasted from between 1 and 2 minutes.)
It was probably another 10 minutes before he was really able to converse – just a few short sentences at a time. He had no memory of our going to lunch after church, no memory of sitting in the chair and reading a book. (Apparently this is normal for all types of seizures.) He was very tired and was falling asleep. Our friend told us that this is normal since their brain has just had so much activity that it just totally exhausts you.
About a half hour later he vomited and said he felt much better. He slept with us last night so we could keep an eye on him during the night. He did fine. Today we are going to make an appointment with a neurologist to get a cat scan and EEG done on him.
We are so thankful that the Lord was with us yesterday.

I was just browsing recently updated blogs and read yours. Wow, what an ordeal! Praise the Lord that you had that mother's intuition to go check on him. I am glad that he is alright. I would have freaked out. Hope that you can get some answers today.

Psalm 145
1 I lift you high in praise, my God, O my King! and I'll bless your name into eternity. 2 I'll bless you every day, and keep it up from now to eternity. 3 God is magnificent; he can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to his greatness. 4 Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; each one tells stories of your mighty acts. 5 Your beauty and splendor have everyone talking; I compose songs on your wonders. 6 Your marvelous doings are headline news; I could write a book full of the details of your greatness. 7 The fame of your goodness spreads across the country; your righteousness is on everyone's lips. 8 God is all mercy and grace – not quick to anger, is rich in love. 9 God is good to one and all; everything he does is suffused with grace.
10 Creation and creatures applaud you, God; 11 your holy people bless you. They talk about the glories of your rule, they exclaim over your splendor, 12 Letting the world know of your power for good, the lavish splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is a kingdom eternal; you never get voted out of office. God always does what he says, and is gracious in everything he does. 14 God gives a hand to those down on their luck, gives a fresh start to those ready to quit. 15 All eyes are on you, expectant; you give them their meals on time. 16 Generous to a fault, you lavish your favor on all creatures. 17 Everything God does is right – the trademark on all his works is love. 18 God's there, listening for all who pray, for all who pray and mean it. 19 He does what's best for those who fear him – hears them call out, and saves them. 20 God sticks by all who love him, but it's all over for those who don't. 21 My mouth is filled with God's praise. Let everything living bless him, bless his holy name from now to eternity!

I'm praying for your sweet child! I hope they figure out what happened and that it's nothing serious. It's so frightening when our children are ill! My youngest son used to have this sort of thing happen when he was little. It was so frightening! I pray that all is well and for God's peace! God bless you all.

I'm praying for your son and your family. I know how scared the other children can get when something happens to another sibling. Let us know what happens.

I came to your blog through a link on Encouragement Along The Way's blog.
I'm sorry to hear about Seth's seizure. How old is he? I ask because we went through a few years of very scary seizures with my oldest daughter (she's 13 now), so I know what you are going through.
