Spoiling Me Royally
We got home from our camping trip on Monday night. On the plus side, there was no rain to speak of but unfortunately, the men did not bag any javelina AND my little girl Audrey was sick almost the entire time. She actually only started feeling back to her normal self the day we broke camp.
Thursday was my birthday and oh, what a glorious day I had. I had told my husband on Wednesday that I wished we could go somewhere so that I could read to him. (Just this week I received in the mail Nourishing Traditions.) I so enjoy reading to him and bless his heart, he’s so good about listening. We used to do it quite a bit but as our lives have become busier with more children we haven’t been able to quite as much.
Thursday morning, Wesley (age 11) prepared Zephyr pancakes for us. Justus, (age 3) had put a gumball on Russell’s and my plate and Serenity decorated our Special Plate.
Russ had me pack for overnight and to bring along all the books I had ever wanted to read.
So, we head out the door after breakfast and didn’t go very far. He had got us a cabin, just down the road, about 8 miles. They were built not very long ago and are still in excellent condition.
About lunch time he mentioned going up to the lodge to see what they had for lunch which was rather surprising since food is not usually on the top of his priority list. (unlike me :)) I said I’d go with him and proceeded to get ready. Then he decided that maybe we would just wait there a little while longer. I immediately started speculating – could it be room service? his sister? what??
A knock sounded on the door, we opened it and I couldn’t believe my eyes. There stood Seth and Zachary, one with a bouquet of flowers in his hand and the other with a large bag from a local bakery/sandwich cafe. I was stunned. They looked so cute standing there with big smiles on their faces. The bouquet of flowers came from Seth. He purchased them using his own money!
Russ and I spent the afternoon reading some more and taking a walk on the trails they had nearby.
They all were so happy that I could get away. Each one contributed some little something to make my day extra special whether it was a gumball or cleaning the house like Zachary did before we got home. My heart was really warmed to see my children rise to the occasion and be able to take care of everything while we were gone for the day. All the time you put into raising your children as well as teaching them life skills really pays off.
Thank you, God for helping Russell and I, even though we are imperfect, to raise these sweet children. You have indeed blessed us bountifully.
