Nature Activity

I got this book while in Pennsylvania at Thanksgiving.

Look What I Did with a Leaf! (Naturecraft)

The author discusses shapes and sizes, training your artist’s eye, the seasons and in the back of the book there is a field guide giving information on many of the leaves used to make the animals in the book.

While in Pennsylvania the kids collected leaves to bring home since where we live has mostly pine trees.

Here are some of the pictures the kids made.  I’m hoping to frame them before they get ruined.  But I took pictures, just in case!

Can you figure out what they are?

  This is a…Mountain Lion,

And this one is an…

Owl, whose branch it’s resting on, needs repaired.

This, of course, is a…butterfly!

My other son made a fox but unfortunately little JM (age3)  had an unangelic moment and ruined the leaves.  (I had not taken pictures yet, either.)

I wonder if my middle/high school students would be interested in this?! Probably not–sometimes I really miss having young ones around. I will show this to my teen-aged babysitting daughter, however, because she sits for a small budding artist who would LOVE this project!

Thanks for sharing the great pics! I just love doing nature activites! My kids have a hard time thinking of fun picture things to do as they aren't great at drawing yet, but that looks really neat! I also have 6 kids and homeschool and all. I love your blog – lots of great stuff. Thanks for sharing about your oldest son picking on his younger sibling. It's so encouraging to hear that God is at work even when you don't see the results of your prayers for a long time! We get so impatient waiting to see results. Anyways, God bless and thanks!

Those are awesome! We had seen Turkey's like those at Thanksgiving and thought it was a great idea. Talented and awesome names! Glad to Formally meet you all. Because of Jesus, Bobbie
