Our Family

My Oldest Is Now 16

My oldest is turning 16 tomorrow. I remember when I was that age so well (or as well as I remember most things) and to think I have a son that old.

He’s been a good boy and is maturing daily. He always asks if there is anything I need done, if I need anything carried to the car, unloads my groceries, always holds the door open for me when we are going into a store and has even shut the door when I‘ve gotten into the car. (wink) He loves the Lord and by God's grace is not swayed by peer pressure.

Does he sound perfect or what? But alas, I must confess the truth. He’s not. He teases his sister and brothers dreadfully! He’s not crazy about showers and he has no imagination when it comes to cooking breakfast, which is his chore once a week. He would eat the same thing all the time if I didn’t declare a mutiny at the thought of having rice cereal one more time.  No matter though, he's our son and we wouldn't trade him for anything.

I look forward to the coming years watching the many changes that will inevitably come his way.

This is not an uncommon sight around my home. I told him the other day that he must be hard-up to sit and play chess with his 3 year old brother JM. He tries to teach JM how the pieces move and he tries to play a real game. He told me JM can capture one of his (SM’s) men without moving any of his pieces. I just love seeing the two set there and talk over their moves. It’s heartwarming.

Happy Birthday, SM!

How sweet of your 16 yr old to be so patient with the little guy! Chess is quite complicated for one so tiny. Our oldest is now 24 and we have to grandbabies. Our 19 yr old is in the army. It just doesn’t seem possible sometimes.

I love hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
